These are good if you use helmet speakers. Pricey but they work well. Will cut down the volume though. etymotic-er-20xs-universal-fit-high-fidelity-earplugs. Reason I ended up with buds is they really cut down on noise so you can have the volume lower.

Thanks for all the quick replies folks! Looks like I'm heading down the cardo / sena / etc road now - orrrrrrrr try a flip front helmet (i had thought of that but didn't wanna drop $$$ as an experiment - Scottish heritage ;)
Just saw these today. The add I saw was for the ear buds, and I thought they might be an option. But, come to find out, they're not cheap.

Cardo Packtalk Slim and these ear buds do it for me. https://h2oaudio.com/products/surge-s-waterproof-headphones-short-cord

Sound when you want it or silence when you want to listen to your own thoughts. Short cord works perfect and the buds are small.

I bought one of those LG Bluetooth jobbies with the retractable cords. The cord would hang up on the jacket collar when looking over the shoulder and they would want to auto retract and proceed to try to rip the bud out of me ear until I pulled over and took my helmet off. Great for the riding mower though.

I have been using Sena (20S) for some years now, and have upgraded the in-helmet speakers to their new-style premium ones.
I have tried using foam ear-plugs in the past with this setup and there is just not enough volume available to hear music and comms with these.

This year I decided to try something different when I found a review of these.

I bought this set off Amazon and they work extremely well!
They reduce extra noise by around 19db.
I used them the entire 17-days of my Idaho trip, and can hear intercom conversations and music perfectly.
They are very comfortable to wear all day, even multiple days in a row.
If you clean them regularly they will last a long time, and they even supply you with a third one in case you lose one accidentally.

The only downside I noticed is you have to turn the volume of the Sena all the way up, and this reduces the battery-life if you ride all day without charging.
(Sena 20S would last around 10-hrs at full volume. I got into the habit of plugging it in to charge during our daily lunch-stop. 10-15 minutes of charge was usually enough to keep it lasting all day)

So, you removed the Sena speakers, and the Moto Pros blutoothed to the Sena control device?

NO, these are merely sound-reducing earplugs.
I use in-helmet speakers (Sena)
These were originally marketed to Musicians, who are on-stage in front of huge amplified speakers.
Someone thought it would be a good idea to start marketing them to moto-riders.
You can hear through them, but it cuts down the noise (mostly higher frequencies) by around 20db.

What I have noticed after a day of riding with them, is that mostly the wind-noise is reduced.
My ears aren't ringing after a long day of riding.
You can still hold a conversation with someone perfectly while wearing them.

Ok, next question. Could you tell a difference in the "improved" speakers? Mine are five years old, and they're ok, but if there's better ones . . . .

My "Honest" answer to that question is: ...........Not much really............
There is a slight difference in quality of sound, but I don't know that it's enough to warrant spending for their "Premium" speakers over the standard ones.
The good thing about them is that they are not terribly expensive.
