I'll be giving these a try as well. Can't believe how fast that rear EXP is evaporating... ???
I had this same experience with an EXP rear on my 1200GSA. (Only put on EXP's as I was on a road trip and needed tires....this is what the dealer had available)
About 4k (Heavily laden bike, 250# rider, 85% road, 15% dirt) and the rear was toast. Finally switched to a standard rear Tourance and EXP up front. Liked the feel of this and averaged about 7k for the set after that.
Having read reports here (and elsewhere) on the K60 I think I'm going to give them a go.

i noticed with the mounting of the k60's last night and no mileage on them yet, they seem like they have a flatter profile on the rear compared to the EXP's.
What pressure is anyone running? Should I goto 40-44 psi range?

I'm 260# and am running 42 in the rear and 38 up front. This bike doesn't seem to carry as much weight up front as the FJR, which I typically ran 42/42 on.

I run about (F)36 and (R) 38/39 Heidenau has told me not to run more than 40...

FYI
I have oem EXP, replaced the rear at 13K/km, replace the front at 26K/km but it could have gone for another 2-3k easy. I already have 15K/km on the new rear EXP and it could go for another 4-5 k easy. Only difference is that I have been checking the air presure more often and trying not to ride it like a sport tourer any more ;) lastly most of my riding is 90%- 10%. it fts my riding very well and dont want to change it

removing the EXP last night, i had 4300miles on it, and there was still 1500-2000 miles left i am guessing. I just wanted the K60 on there.

Now then, can I ask what recommendations would be forthcoming for the Tenere - I have Metzeler Tourance EXP on at the minute

Front - 110/80R 19 - 3mm in centre

Back - 150/70R 17 - 2.5mm in centre

With 7,500 on clock so in same league as the FJR Mileage wise

Right got my ear plugs in....................... Go

Just to point out I do BIG Motorway miles TWO UP 75% of the time and solo the rest. Chances of off roads are 5% of there life if that.

Any recomendations folks? Read through all this and have no idea what K60's are. Who makes them. :-[

I know Nick Sanders uses Continental Tyres but as he's not paying for them who can blame him

I've found this but still no feed back on tyres

http://www.bits4motorbikes.co.uk/YAMAHA/YamahaXT1200Z(1711)tyres.html

but thats just size and prices. No info on the tyres. I used Conti Road Attack 1's and 2's on the FJR and really liked them.
Fixed your link.

The SO has been getting 10k+ miles from her Conti Trail Attacks. This is on a F650GS2, but rally loaded with the trio of BMW bags and a 4 gal fuel cell, plus tank panniers and tank bag loaded with stuff. She's easily up to the weight of the bare S10, if not over. They should do well on the S10 and I'll probably try some.

The Heidenau K60 Scouts are made in Germany. I have 9k on mine and will get another 1200 miles out of them before I take the rear off and toss the oem EXP back on to wear it out. I've been pretty pleased with the K60 for over all riding with some dirt. If you spend a lot of time in the dirt, it's not as aggressive as a TKC80, but it lasts far longer. If you spend most of the time on the street, the K60s are a little vibey at slab speeds, though not really noticeable below 65 mph or so. I'll probably keep a set of K60s in the garage for Death Valley rides and more dirt oriented trips, but stick to Conti Trails the rest of the time, unless they don't hold up well on the heavier S10.

I've run Conti RAs on the FJR and liked them, got good mileage from them, (14kF/10kR), but haven't ridden on the RA2s. Anyone know if they perform about the same, better or worse than the RA1s for longevity?

I have used the Conti trail attacks for 6000 miles now , good grip in wet and dry . But the front has gone out of shape .I can feel the front weaving when riding at low speeds

Checked the spokes just in case . No problem there .

The rear looks good for another 2-3000 miles at least but I am not sure I want another conti front. I do know that I ride the front tyre harder than the rear , always have . On the FJR I used to get about 8000 miles from front and nearly 10000 from the rear (Michelin PR2s ).

Sounds like me. I'm hoping my present Tourance's last until I'm ready to change out for the Whitehorse Run next year, but that's iffy since they do not seem to bye wearing as good as the reports from the BattleWings.

I replaced the OEM Battlewings at 14,935 miles this past Monday and had K-60s mounted. I've had tremendous luck with K-60s in the past, and even if you are planning on spending 90%+ of your miles on pavement, I think they are the single best tire choice for this bike in terms of longevity and handling. You never know when the urge or need for dirt will strike, and in the mean time, you can ride further and save $$ by having less frequent tire changes... :)

That was some pretty fair mileage for the OEM Battlewings! I wish my EXP would have done half that.. ::26::

My EXP has 5700 miles on it right now and is pretty flat in the middle. I might get another 1000 out of it.
