I was getting tired of the abrupt engine braking and the lack of power in the first three gears. Since I was going to get the ECU flashed and dyno remapped, I also invested in an Akropovic slip on. Attached are the results: Baseline with slip on was 96.5 HP and we eventually reached 99.5 HP after working on the ECU. What the attached chart does not show is how much smoother the engine is now: Engine braking is normal and I got rid of the factory 70% throttle restriction on the first three gears. Cooling fan was set at a lower temperature as well. The bike pulls really strong in 2nd and 3rd gear . Anthony at Bauce racing spent about 4 hours getting everything right, but the result is worth it. The Tenere engine is fantastic once allowed to operate "normally". Bauce racing specializes in tuning Yamaha race bikes and this was their first Tenere. They now have a great engine tune for those looking for ECU upgrades. Dyno run 1.jpg

may consider a reflash , after a little time give an updated report on how your bike is doing actually. as you ride your normal routine.

After two weeks and about 600 miles, I can confirm the following:

- The first three grear restriction removal and the reduced engine braking make commuting much more pleasurable. No more jerkiness or cars getting too close behind me when engine braking is less frequent (watch those mirrors!).
- As the dyno curves shows, there is a definite surge of power above 5K rpm, which I can now experience in the first three gears; It so improves the bike's perfornance profile!
- MPG has dropped from 48 to 42, as expected. Engine does not run any hotter, but I think it is a nice thing to have the fan on at 204 down to 195 instead of 221 down to 203.
- The Akra sounds great yet not obnoxious.

There are several ways to reach such results, but dyno tuning definitely gets out there with the assurance of taking the best path specific to your bike. The end result is an S10 with the personality it should have had from the get go. I like this S10 better than Multistrada I used to own, mainly because of that 70lb/ft of torque at 2,500 RPMs, and it now feels like it has the same level of power, at least up to 7K,. The strada kept giving more HP up to 9k, but I don't miss it.

Interesting chart showing the impact of Akrapovic slip on, same after dyno tuning, and finally Anthony at Bauce Racing tuned the bike again after installing the Arrow headers. The WOT HP gain is marginal at 3HP, but the gain mid-range is impressive and totally changes the bike for the better. It revs up faster and pull strong from start in a linear manner up to the rev limiter. Anthony also managed to get the S mode less jerky, and combined with a 10HP gain mid range, the Tenere can now be described as fast! This engine is a gem, when given a chance to work freely! For less than $1K, parts, labor and dyno tuning included for the Arrow headers, this bike is now giving both diesel like torque and quick rev to 102HP at the wheel. Well worth it!
