My OEM Yuasa battery (a YTZ12S) failed 0n 02/02/18 at 42 months and 43,828 miles. I replaced it with a Super Start Platinum XTZ14S battery from O'Reilly Auto. At the time, there was about a $50.00 difference in price between the Super Start and the more expensive Yuasa. The Super Start XTZ14S has now been in the bike for 48 months and 44,860 miles and still going strong. The rated CCA for the Super Start was 210 as opposed to the Yuasa YTZ14S at 230. The XTZ14S has apparently been replaced in the Super Start line by the BTZ14S, with the same CCA (210). It lists at $109.99. The Yuasa lists for $149.00 on Amazon, and I've seen it as expensive as $170.00.

When it comes time to replace this battery, it'll be with another Super Start.

"Best" is kind of a thorny issue. I'm sure there are guys here who'd argue that a Shorai was the best. They edge towards the $200.00 price range. The Shorais listed as fitting the Super Tenere are the LFX18A1-BS12 and the LFX19A4-BS12. These are LFX batteries though and not AGM, so they have some unique considerations that you have to pay attention to if you use one.

As Rob said, the 14 is definitely an improvement over the 12. I swapped over earlier this year.

Many folks have been switching to Lithium Ion batteries and reporting superior results so that will probably be my next battery.

The Motocross YTZ14S is the house branded Yuasa battery.

The PO of my 2018 installed a Antigravity battery. While I have nothing to compare it to as it's all I've had on the bike, so far it's worked great with no problems.

Had a YUASA YTZ14S for 3 months, until it started failing on me...most likely it had a long shelf life before i bought it.

Went for a lithium battery after that, won't go back to "standard" ones.

Much, much stronger on cold starts, recharges much faster while riding, barely looses any charge even after a couple of weeks without riding.

My five-year-old OE battery has been going into "disulfate" mode each day when I get back home after riding. A sure sign that the battery's days are numbered, although it starts just fine. Depending on what the price difference is at my dealer, I might just stick with the 12S. For those of you on a budget, Wal-Mart has a 12s, 11ah/210cca, for $34.99. I'm tempted to try it. If the battery lasted for only one year, it would take four years to equal the Yuasa 12S. Wal-Mart also was a 14s, 11.2ah/230cca, for $44.99. Also providing a 4:1 cost ratio.

Whatever you do, don't order through Revzilla. Their prices are low to mid $200s.

I wonder how many of these alternate brands of batteries are still actually made by Yuasa?
Probably several of them. The difference is in the thickness of the plates and the overall quality. My battery rep came by a couple of years ago and he had a good selection of off brand batteries and the Yuasa battery to compare them too. All the batteries had been sawed in half. There was a big difference in the plates.

4 year old lithium here. Due to a recent change to apartment-based living, I have not had the luxury of plugging her into a tender. Bike has been sitting outside all year; the past 3 months have had several stretches below freezing. Each and every time I go out, pull the cover off, and hit the "go" button, she spins up like gangbusters. I'm sold on this newfangled technology.
