Bag Liners; OEM vs. Caribou vs. ???

I just got my panniers mounted up last week. Ended up going with the im2600 Pelican Storms, on Givi quick-detach racks, using Twisted Throttle's adapter brackets. Now I'm ready to look at liners.

I'm aware of Caribou's liners, but haven't heard any feedback. Same goes for the OEM version. Has anyone used the OEMs in these boxes? I'm guessing they'd be too wide fully expanded, but interested in your opinions. Also, are there any other (read cheaper) options out there? Something like, "Yeah, I found a laptop bag that fits/works great!"? :lamp: Another option is a guy I found on an ADVrider search. Seems he makes them from scratch, to your measurements.

Again, I'm still shopping, but looking at what others have learned. From what I've read so far the OEMs are nice, but apparently the zippers aren't. :question:

Thanks in advance... ::003::

If by "OEM liners", you mean the liners that come with Yamaha's bags, they're somewhat rigid and very custom-fitted to the shape of the Yamaha panniers, so I doubt they'd be a good candidate unless the shape/size of yours is exactly the same. They're expandable, but the expansion panel is very minor, only increasing the width by an inch or so. (I theorize this is to handle the difference in width between the left and right.) They're nicely made but the zippers and carrying handles are relatively fragile.

I'd be surprised if you couldn't do better for less money.

You really need custom liners with odd shaped bags like those on the Ducati ST. The 36 liter Pelicans (Stroms) are a very normal shape. You may already own (I did) a soft carry-on bag that fits perfectly. I did buy one liner from Caribou and I am happy with it. I use the bag I already owned in the other side.

OK, I'll admit having been a KLR owner at one point. Actually, we kept it while a number of other steeds passed through...

I've learned to simply use fabric grocery/shopping bags from grocery stores, Walmart, or any car show. In addition to being able to easily load/unload, I can segregate dirty tools from my clothes, and my clothes from Karen's. Getting ready for our first overnighter, it helped to hand her a bag and tell her that it WAS her baggage space.

Further, when I had the pretty factory OEM liners for the FJR, I found that tools and other hard items would wear holes through them. With the fabric shopping bags, I just get a new bag.

btw - I've got the MuffinTop side boxes and will note that I've never had water get inside. It's be worth a heavy trash bag second/outer liner if somebody's boxes were to leak.

I had the Caribou liners with their bags on my R1150GS. I did the Labrador Highway and was very pleased with the performance of this setup. If I buy bags for my Ténéré I will more than likely go with this setup again. Buy the liners that fit correctly and you will not be disappointed.

Yeah, I have one Caribou bag liner. I use it on the left side for clothing and stuff I might want to take into the tent or hotel. It keeps stuff from falling out when the bike is on the side stand. All the loose stuff goes in the right side so it doesn't self-unload when the box is opened. The bags from Caribou are a quality product.

I'm also using the Cee Bailey liners in my Givi B36N cases, which are similar in dimension to the 36 liter Pelican Storms. They work great.
