Anyone try a 110/90 front instead of the stock 110/80 size?

I was looking to order some Mitas E-07s and the it looks like 110/80 are backordered until April. That is cutting it a bit close to the Romney event for my liking, so I was thinking about trying the 110/90 that they do have in stock now.

My only fear is if the TCS/ABS are going to get upset at the slightly larger tire. The 90 profile will result in ~3.3% larger circumference if my high school math is correct.

You should be fine... If you backed out the circumference between a straight street tire verses several different full knob tires you might be greater than your 3%... go or it..

Yeah, that was kind of my thought. 3% is probably about what a tire changes from new to worn.

Your new tire will be 11mm taller than your old one. Thats quite a big change in geometry- Your bike will steer slower, but will be more stable.

Yeah. If the handling gets too slow, I'll raise the forks in the triples to compensate.

If that's the case, then it's actually only a 5.5mm difference in front end height. :)

I is, I is.

I am just hoping to find some more "adventure" this year. I'm hoping to attend the Romney event in May and I'm really hoping to go explore VT/NH/ME. I figure I better at least be prepared.

I don't plan to leave the Mitas on the bike, unless they really are as good on pavement as I have heard. No way you will see a K60 on my bike after hearing honest pavement reviews.

That's the problem with the internet, my friend. Unless you "know" the kind of rider a poster really is, what someone's review is, can be misleading. That, or when someone hands you your ass in the twisties with a K60 on the rear. :)

I knew that comment would provoke this discussion.

I've talked to enough guys who have tried the K60s. Some LOVE it. Some HATE it.

All say it is a mess when the road gets wet. Some say it is a mess when the road is paved.

What I do know, is I have read enough reviews to know that with the Mitas I am not giving up much if anything when the road is dirty compared to the K60. BUT, I am gaining TONS when the road is paved or wet.

Yeah, I'm not sure how that is related to front tire size...unless maybe you have a 110/90 front K60?

Conversely, would a 100/90/19 tire work? If it is stated as a rear tire, will it still work? I am doing some thinking and don't want to spend $125 on a Pirelli Scorpian Rally, where I can just get a SHinko 523 tire for $60 to be used on a weekend. What you all think?

I hope you're not serious. This is a bottom of the barrel junk tire and it's not even tubeless. Maybe on the back of a 250 dirt bike, but no way on the front of an S10. JMHO.

I am as serious as a F'n bad heart-attack!!!! I will be riding maybe 100 miles off road on this tire in a DS ride in eastern Washington this April. I will be transporting the bike by a Penske truck there, then home along with a weekend of tools, coolers, and rain protection. I will have a tube in there as well. So, it sounds like you have preference for the Scorpian Rally then!!! What has been your experience using the Shinko as mentioned above? Are you laughing at this because it is Shinko?

This is what I want to hear back about.

So what is this event? :)
And all you need out of the tire is 100 miles of off road?

Delightful. Intriguing. I like the rules.

1. That splains what you're planning on doing with it a little better.
2. I have no preference for a Scorpian at all.
3. I sell tires, including Shinkos and IMO they are junk.
