Anyone else waiting to see & sit on the ST at one of the International Motorcycle Shows before forking over the deposit?

I've had mixed results purchasing bikes sight unseen - like purchasing bikes via E Bay - only to find that I needed to do too much work to make them comfortable for all day rides. Could be as simple as purchasing a new seat to replace the plank the factory installed, but sometimes it involved bars, pegs, windshields, etc... in the case of the Goose, i never could get my knees off the cylinder heads.

So while I'm hell-bent on the ST, I'm waiting. Must be getting older and wiser. Or just a wuss.

Anyone else doing the same?

As much as I'm hoping I'll love this bike when I get to finally meet it, past experience has told me to wait until I can demo ride it. I've come off of bikes that I was sure I'd love with a disgusted feeling, while others that I never gave a second look made me grin ear to ear.

If that makes us wusses then so be it, but I'd say we're just being cautious. ;)

I had the good fortune to see and sit on a real live blue ST yesterday at the Yamaha demo ride tent during Biketoberfest at Daytona, Florida. They had one ST on display but not available for test rides.

I must say I'm very impressed with the fit and finish on the ST. It looks to be very well made. To my surprise the seat seemed to be very comfortable, at least for the few minutes I was able to try it. It's thickly padded and quite wide. I might not have to go aftermarket with a Russell seat if I buy the ST.

I'm still waiting to see and test ride both the new Triumph Tigers and this new ST. I'll be replacing my 2006 Tiger 955 with one of those bikes sometime in 2011 or early 2012. If I decide to go with a larger, heavier bike instead of a new Tiger, the Yamaha will be it. The ST really looks good in person!

It will be very very interesting if there become a slew of orders after the shows start trickling in after the IMS events!!! Bring em on people. We need to have one big ole rally here!!!

I have a DL650 and KTM950SM right now and have almost decided to add the S10 to the garage. The KTM will most likely go but I will have to see. It is hard to decide without seeing it first.
Any Strom owners in the same boat?

Ordered a Raven.
I likely won't get to see one or sit on one till the show comes to town in February. If Yamaha put one in the demo fleet (they aint yet I called) I may buy a ticket and fly down to try one in either TX or CA.

Yes, I'm buying an S10 to basically replace three bikes: a DRZ, DL650, and FJR. I know it won't be as good a dirt bike as a DRZ, nor as good a touring bike as an FJR, but I'm ready to have fewer bikes in my stable.

I am right with you Mark. The S10 really has my attention but I am thinking of keeping the wee and making the S10 a replacement to my KTM950SM. I would really like to have all three but don't know if I can pull that one off.

I'm still on the fence. I'm going to get a Blue one or another GS. Going to Toronto Show in 51 days to actually see one. 8)

I'm jumping over the fence to the S10 side. I need to thin out the herd first. Triumph is rumored to have a 1200 tiger in the lineup for 2012, but I honestly think it will be more expensive than the S10 and chain drive to boot.

Triumph also have a new adventure bike coming out, 800cc triple, there is a rumour of a 1200 version of that as well.

Yeah the new Triple does look wicked. I'm gonna go and look at the new Triumph adventure bike as soons as it's out (although the 800cc is putting me off). In terms of the 1200 it's all still rumours on the adventure version and the Tiger, guess it's wait and see as normal.

LOL; I'm ONE of the only people on here with one .... Morty is getting one ... but like all Brits he will look at the Triumphs first. Why not, they are cool machines.
