Any concerns with dealer demos?

A dealer an hour away has a demo 2013 S10 that I'm interested in. 2,000 miles and comes with a full warranty. Are there any horror stories about buying a demo S10 that I should be aware of before signing the dotted line?

I wouldn't worry provided the warranty starts from the date YOU purchase it and the deal is good enough.

What does he want for it?

Is that a GOOD deal?

Low $12k can be had on a brand new, 0 mile example. Depending on your sales tax I think you could do better.

My .02 on dealer demos is that they have probably been ridden hard from brand new. Think about what you want to know on a demo ride and then compare that with how long a demo ride lasts. How's the power, How does this ABS work, How good is the TC? I'm guessing a lot of people just get on a brand new bike, don't warm it up properly and think "how fast is it?" I'm a break it in by the book kind of guy and while I've had good luck with used bikes (bought my SV with 3K and now it has 90K and burns no oil), I consider a demo to be not just a used bike, but a potentially abused bike. I'm a long term owner and $500 isn't enough of a deal for me to take a gamble. If I just wanted a fling? Well...then I'd be buying used anyway. Or doing a demo ride :))

$12000 would be about $10,700 before tax and license.

My bike had 0 miles on it when I got it. (pdp bike)

I've been demoing it for 34,000 miles. I can hardly ride it any other way. It begs to be flogged. On & off-road.

I doubt any bike at a dealer has been treated harsher. So I wouldn't blink buying one.

Honestly, that is more where I would want to be. It is a "used" bike, regardless of whether it has been titled yet.

See what you can get out of them. YES isn't a bad idea if they will throw it in. Maybe some accessories if there is something you want?

The demo I rode was inside of the breakin period, and I know how I rode it. I also know how my buddy rode the same demo. I wouldn't want a bike that had been treated like that. There's too many other good deals out there.

Also it was the slower blue color.

Just buy the damn thing....... But have the dealer upgrade the headlight wiring harness as part of the deal. A new pn was released just a few months ago. Several failures of the previous pn have been reported.

that's not that great of a deal, there's a 2013 with 0 miles for 12499 3 hours to the west of me. and there's a 2012 for 10900 3 hours east of me. but just 30 miles away there's a 2013 with 0 miles still at 14XXX.

I bought mine as a demo with 600kms on the clock. Got a full 2 year warranty. I was a little concerned about how it may have been treated but I don't think breakin periods are as important as they used to be. I've also seen engines tested before they leave the factory where they get run at redline for 5 mins. Anyway I saved $5000 so it was worth it.

At the end of the day if you are happy it is a good deal.
This ^^^^

No matter what deal you come up with, someone will always have / know of a *better* one...

Good luck with the search.

Gave the boss a ride to the local Ferrari dealership to pick up a new Maserati with a Ferrari drive train. While he was signing paperwork, I asked what is the "breakin procedure" for this car?

The very knowledgeable salesman smiled and said, this motor is broke in. Before it was ever put into the car.

I still believe that could only be partially true. But I get the point.

I looked at the boss when he looked up at my reaction to the response and stated "well hell, then there is no reason that I shouldn't get to drive it back to the office. It's not like I can blow it up!

He threw me the keys. Said don't go to jail.

Nice car. Italian V8's are so........italian.

Oh, back to topic. Today metallurgy and engineering and manufacturing processes are not like our grandfathers Buick.

Again, I would fear no Tenere demo bike. I rented a Tenere with 70,000 kilometers on it. A rental! (how much abuse you figure it got?)

Other than a very tired suspension, that bike ran as tight and clean as mine. That told me a lot about this machine.

Another Texas member here is selling a fully farkled Tenere -- really nice accessories -- for just a grand more, it must have over $4K in accessories not counting installation labor. If I were in Texas, I'd be going that route.
