Joe here, I see some familiar faces. I run the ST-Owners.com site and have caught the dual sporting bug.

I'm seriously considering the Super Tenere and the Moto Guzzi Stelvio NTX.

So far, the Guzzi has an upper hand at tank range but the Yamaha is beating it in every other category so it's number one on the list.

Not sure if I can afford the bike and the extras I'd want to put on it this year but I still have the ST and will keep it at least until Honda comes our with a new one.

Anyway, glad to be here and hope to see what all the buzz is about, can't wait to see more folks getting the bikes and posting observations.

Welcome Joe. I am an ex ST1300 owner myself and am looking forward to this new ride more than ever before. I have an early original ST owner member number like a few others on here. I don't know about the site you are talking about.

Hello, Mellow, from STOC # 017. You and I have discussed the Super Tenere on the ST-Owners site, and as you mentioned, ST-owners can also stand for Super Tenere Owners!

As far as the Stelvio, I have ridden both it and the new Super Tenere, and while the Stelvio is a fine bike, it can't compare to the Super Ten. BTW, as you sure about the tank range? I have a friend that has one and he is adding an aux tank, as I am sure he said the tank was only 4.75 gallons.

In any case, welcome to the forum.

Fred Z.

Welcome Joe,

Love the ST site, lots of great information. Good luck on your decision, the Guzzi is a class act too.

Cheers!

Welcome, Mellow. I'm also a subscriber on ST-Owners.com; it was a big help last summer when I bought my used ST1300.

Hey Joe,

Glad to see you over here. I'm sure that many members of this site would be interested in your other site www.motocampers.com as it would be a good fit for adventure riders.

Hadn't heard that news about the 2012 Stelvio with the big tank ,etc, Joe. I'll have to tell my buddy. He may have to trade his in.

Man, 8.5 gallons even beats our ST1300's 7.7. Oh, well, my ST is on the floor ar our dealers, so I am going back to 6 gallons.

AND LOVING IT! ;D

Welcome Joe from another (previous) ST1100A owner.
Wanted that bike in the worst way for a long time. Bought a used 2002 a couple of years ago, rode it for a year but could never ride for long periods of time. Just killed my elbows. Yeah, I tried all kinds of seat, peg, handlebar combination's but my wife and I decided it just wasn't what we wanted.

We think we found it now! In fact, we drove about 200 miles (round trip) today to a dealership that had one on display and tried it on for size. I'll be posting my impressions a little later.

PS, has Byron showed his newest ride?

Hey Mellow and welcome! I rode a Concours until recently when I went into a Yamaha dealership to buy my son an XT250. I saw the XT1200Z Super Tenere poster on the wall and was immediately intrigued.

Like the ST, the Concours offered some of the practical features of a dressed up cruiser with the quickness and maneuverability of a sport bike. I had seen GS's around, but didn't really know much about them, so to me, something like the ST or the Concours was the only thing that I could find that came close to the beloved enduros that I rode as a kid, but also offered long range touring/commuting capability. Besides, I have already owned a German sports sedan and have been bitten by the enormous maintenance requirements, so I don't think I could ever be convinced to spend 20K on another one of those maintenance money pits. I was later introduced by a buddy to the Strom option, but it still wasn't exactly what I was looking for.

I think that the Super Tenere not only comes close, but is exactly the bike that I would have bought 4 years ago when I got the Concours. It offers the perfect combination of versatility that I was looking for.

The only thing that I don't like about it, and I REALLY don't like this, is THE LONG WAIT! I just can't wait to get that beast between my legs!

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeell.....

After a stint on a Vstrom 650A I've decided I MAY be back in the fold... Just a matter of what dealer around here can get me into a 2014 ES... I sold my Gen1 SuperTen about 2 years ago and stuck with the ST1300 for a while then picked up a 2012 Vstrom, great little bike but just didn't replace the SuperTen, it always felt like an interim bike... I suppose it was.

Mellow, Welcome from the resident Explorer owner. These guys are great and the bikes are wicked cool. As an ex ST1300 owner shedding the weight and the plastic is the way to go! Hope to be on a Super Tenere by the end of the year myself.
