Am I the only one who enjoys this?

Riding in the rain that is... It's quite blustery in Jacksonville today (low 50's and rainy) and I just couldn't resist a short 90 mile stroll on the old girl. Aside the fact the bike performed brilliantly, and the Battlewings did their job with aplomb...I find a certain peace in the solitude of riding on a rainy day. No music through the Sena, no Blutooth link, no extraneous distractions. Just me, the bike, and an acute sense of concentration due to the added challenge of navigating in a bit more challenging atmosphere. I like it...

Took a 90 mile ride along a very motorcyclist-popular stretch of A1A that snakes lazily along the coast between Jacksonville and Amelia Island. Not one other bike on the road today, which got me to thinking; "I can't be the only one that enjoys riding in these conditions." Would like to hear what others think...

As an aside, I just can't find anything that this bike will not do well. First time I've spent any serious time in T-Mode and now realize it is a useful tool in its own way for certain conditions... As many have said - this thing just seems to get better and better with each passing mile.

I don't mind riding in the rain at all .... if it's warm. But up here, when it rains, it's always cold. So .... I guess for my purposes then ... I don't enjoy riding in the rain. I hope this clears things up. R ::018::

I like the rain aswell. Its not so great if it catches you with out your proper gear on, but if Im geared up no problem! Two years ago I was riding out to the East Coast. At that time, late September I think, a hurricane blew up into Louisiana, the bands of rain where going from Dallas / Ft Worth and blowing North East. I rode in TORINTIAL RAIN for two days and 1500 miles. There where a few times in Arkansas and Tennessee that most all the cars where off the high way. There where cars parked under the over pass. The few cars on the high way had there flashers on going about 20-30 Mph. I was there too with my flashers on (Yamaha FJR) aswell going 20.. That was just nutty rain, I earned my boy-scout "riding in the rain" badge that week.... :D Good thing thing I had nice fresh deep tread tires on. I was 100% dry and worm, never got one drop in my touring gear and it was like being in a car.

Sometimes I love riding in a summer rain. Don't mind it in the winter as long as I am geared up, I enjoy people's strange looks. ???

I'm not sure that I can tell someone why exactly, but I like riding in the rain too. Oddly, I find it relaxing...I'm not sure if that's good or not. O:)
Freezing mist caused stone shrinkage today, sending me home.

Inside of two weeks after I got my bike last August I got caught in a downpour in the twistys coming down from Estes Park, CO (Rod knows the stretch). I hadn't ridden the bike, or much any bike in the rain for years. The ST with ABS and TC was simply a pleasure in the rain, except that I was not geared up for the weather. Confidence up 10 fold. Wet but smiling! Fun stuff!

I enjoy the rain most of the time too - focuses the mind a little more than usual and that's always a good thing. You might enjoy this vid - of the first 3000 miles I did on the S10, I reckon half of them were wet... I like the pitter-patter of tiny (and not so tiny) raindrops in this...

If you love adventures in motorcycling, you are going to get rained on. Get the gear & enjoy yourself. I don't mind the rain much if is not much more than moderate, but I am not fond of torrential down pours on steep, paved descents. I like riding dirt roads and trails in the rain over the asphalt and concrete mostly because I am more concerned about the other drivers doing something stupid.

I usually do not mind riding in the rain as long as there are no accompanying thunderstorms and wind. I've come all too close to going down or off the road a couple times.

One of my most memorable rides was during an August Georgia thunderstorm north of Hotlanta. It was 10 PM and the sensory rush was incredible. Between the lightning, rain, wind and temperature swings it was quite an adventure. Call me weird but I actually enjoyed it. I don't let the rain stop me and yeah you can count me in the "I like riding in the rain" crowd.

One of my best rides was my very first time down the Dragon. I was on the VFR and it was pouring rain and in the low 50's. I was warm and dry and the only other people I saw were some guys on enduros.

Same here, I'm not sure exactly what about it I enjoy, but I sure do. Spent 6 hours in the rain with temp swings from the low 40's to mid 50's coming home from my parents' place one weekend. Everyone thought I was nuts, but - 1) I had to get home. And 2) I enjoyed the hell out of it - the whole way. Without the right gear it would be downright miserable, but I was dry and enjoyed the ride immensely... Maybe it's the pitter patter on the helmet that calms me

I wouldn't say that I enjoy it. I don't go looking for it, but I don't shy away from it either. Seems like the last bunch of times I got caught in it it was cold. Good gear helps, but it still gets cold.

The thing that I worry about is visibility, Usually you can hit a speed to keep your shield clear (and get a speeding ticket coming around Mille Lacs Lake) but I worry about the poor visibility and the other folks seeing me. And I don't think they expect bikes out in the rain.

Some times when you are traveling the rain just isn't that good. One of the rainy days on our Alaska trip we were heading west on the Denali Highway [gravel road] and it rained or snowed the whole way. That is one of the prettyist roads in the world and we never seen anything. It's funny but my son just said today " we need to ride the Denali again some day" But I like riding any time.

Don't mind rain, unless I gotta set up camp. Good riding suit is all I need. Heated grips are a big help on my GL1800. Need to put some on the ST. I can keep going in snow, been there, done that, but when the lightning is near, I park it.

OK, if we're telling war stories .... ::025:: When we headed for Calgary last fall, the second day out we woke up and it was raining and 5 °C (think 40 °F). It rained on us and never got any higher than 5 °C for 8 hours. Finally, the clouds broke and it cleared off and became a semi-decent day. But "what the hell am I doing here" crossed my mind a few times. It was less than pleasant. Just sharing with you. Send belated money. R
