This started off so well with people offering their honest opinions.

So true... and the op specifically asked folks to share their actual experience. "Please share your experiences. Actual experiences, not hearsay please."

its not that big blu is not welcome here , he is . and he is entitled to have an opinion , we all do... kcw wanted to know if she was crazy to consider a bmw , and the answer is no. she will not be considered crazy for considering, crazy for buying, maybe... the gs is the grand father of all of the adv bikes we all ride, like grand paw we should give it respect... when we talk about the super ten and a few flaws and even a few major failures it pales in comparison to bmw failures that are well documented . kcw if the bmw strikes your fancy and you can afford it then do it... but let us know how it turns out after a bit... I suspect big blu is going to jump off the bmw wagon to ktm soon , and this based on his own words and self proclaimed history... I have nothing against bb I would buy him a cup of coffee as we continued the debate. but, and he knows this the bmw is over priced and not reliable as compared to any Japanese brand bike... Toyota used to run ads about how reliable they are , but ever Toyota dealer has a shop for a reason , even they have to make repairs at times. is a tiger tank a better tank than a Russian t34, hell yea, till they broke down... and that was their destruction... that is documented history.... funny how things don't really change much.....

I was strictly kidding about really getting a Ural.
I'm addicted to the Tenere, even if it can't go clear under and come out running. ::013::

On our Alaska trip on one river crossing I was standing on the pegs and had water running in over the top of my Sidi Adventure Gore Tex boots and water was up to the top of my headlights in front of me.
You always push a wake of water about a foot higher in front of the bike.
Unfortunately no pictures, Matt and Joey weren't very good with their cameras.

Big Blue is here because we like him here. Don't remember reading any signs about who was allowed on the forum. My new R1 has a steering damper. Does that mean it's not a good bike?
who's we cuz it sure is not me. The R1 is a totally different animal cool bike bro.

I own a Vespa 300 GT that I rode across country in 2012, it's a cool bike to! ::024::

5k miles in 28 days, best CC trip ever, and I had many. ::015::
For me it's about the journey(smiles and miles), not the destination, not the tool, bro! ::021::

Is it me or would such a large machine on an island with limited roads be beyond overkill. Nothing exceeds like excess, I guess.

urals are cool. reverse engineered 1930's bmw's.... they even come with paddles... they are I think the ultimate bailing wire duct tape maintenance machines out there . the problem is they have gotten expensive... (bad grammer early in the morn) 2 wheel drive, nice... but you have to be a little crazy to buy one, its in the contract I think.

There are Hayabusa's over there that can stretch their legs. A GS is hardly excess.
