Altrider skidplate on '14: something to watch out for

I picked up my '14 base model at the dealer a few days ago, and my dealer also carries Altrider now, so I had them install crash bars and skid plate before I picked the bike up.
I was checking the bike out in the garage a couple days later and noticed that rear edge of the skid plate was making contact with the exhaust, specifically the catalytic convertor. I am concerned that with continued contact the skid plate will damage the cat. I showed the service manager and we puzzled over what to do as there did not appear to be any good way to adjust the fit. When I go back in a week or two for the 600 mile service and they have the skid plate off for the oil change, we are going to look at grinding some material off the skid plate to create some space.
So be careful of the fit at that point.
And, if any of you have experienced this and have a better solution, please let me know.

Have you contacted Altrider? This is something that I am sure they would correct quickly and change their design....especially if they could begin saying "and now it protects the cat too".

This was posted in the PNW Super Tenere Owners facebook group, but I'll repost it here for those that haven't seen. Here's what our designer had to say on this:

"I was able to look at our skid installed on both a 2014 and on a pre-2014 yesterday. The catalytic converter is definitely bigger and hangs down lower on the new bike. The one I looked at was super-close to touching and I can see how on some bikes it would actually be touching. Note that it is touching the large rear bracket, which sits a bit higher on top of the aluminum plate. We are re-designing that bracket in two areas. 1) new bracket will have a small notch to clear the side-stand bolt. 2) new bracket will have a cutout to clear the cat.

Once the bracket is changed the aluminum plate itself will still be a bit closer than we would normally like to the cat, but on the other hand we are hesitant to lower the entire thing and lessen overall ground clearance."

If you have any other questions or issues with any of our parts, please feel free to contact us and we'll help you out.

I didn't even notice that after I put mine on.

I used the oem spacer on the sidestand whereas the instructions said to remove it. That fixed the issue with the bolt touching.

There's about the thickness of 2 sheets of paper between the rear bracket and the cat.

Jeremy L - any chance we can get an exchange of the old to new rear bracket or at least a discounted price?

I've been checking mine and at times there is definite contact and at times maybe a hair's width of space. I suppose movement and heat expansion causes it to vary. So keep an eye on it

Isn't it cool to have the president of an aftermarket company on our forum taking care of buisness and resolving our issues? ::012:: Oh and Thanks Jeremy for letting Erik host the BBQ! It was a great day!!

Sort of like changing the crash bars space so your panels don't drag across them when your trying to get to the rad or battery. ::)

This was pointed out at the BBQ Saturday (thanks again for the grub AltGuys), and mine was definitely making contact with the Cat. Last night I took the whole thing back off and Dremeled the offending part of the mounting bracket away. Changed the oil again even though it was done 1k ago, just because pulling the plate and re-installing isn't as entertaining as I wish it were. I did learn that a small pair of needle-nose Vice-Grip pliers made getting the nuts started way easier. Reinstalled the plate in half the time.

Jim, that specific question was asked and the answer was " in development" but I'll guess they will have one out sooner than Yamaha will ::)

Anyone install a full aftermarket exhaust on the 14 with the Alt Rider plate? I would assume that fitment would then be identical to the 13 models.
