Anyone experiencing excessive noise from driveline/kickstand mount location? Only on decel not a tight gear decel but higher gear decel. My by sounds like an old log truck with a nasty roar/whine at times not constant. It did not do this with the Yamaha plate before. I hope it's the Altrider plate amplifying some engine and drive line noises. Everything is working fine and no known issues other than this new noise which appeared the first time I was coasting on decel down a long grade kinda in a higher gear. Sound comes from that drive shaft joint and rear engine output shaft location which also has the Altrider rear mout attaching to the kickstand mount which attaches at the frame there. Just seems coincidental when I put the plate on a month ago to go to CO is when this noise occured.

Strange,,,I plan to remove the plate soon for an oil change current I'm on the bike up in NC so can't mess with it right now.

Roy,

I have not noticed any unusual noise with my Altrider plate (which has been on the bike over a year now). Of course my Altrider has been 'slightly - ha!' modified due to the terrain I have taken the ST thru, so it's no longer completely flat and smooth on the bottom, and it's had to be rewelded as well. But no excessive noise, either pre/post modification.

I would also double check the mounting at the back, especially the exhaust hanger on the right side to make sure it is not vibrating the entire rear mount.

Jeff doesn't post here often, and his pan may have been Altrider, but his pan sang loud enough I could hear it when he rode up.

Never noticed extra sounds after I mounted the AltRider skid plate and after 10K+ miles with it mounted I'd be used to it by now.

The only noise mine makes is the pinging of rocks bouncing off of it, other than that I don't even know it's there. ::008:: ::008:: ::008::

my altrider skid plate drove me crazy with increased noise, so last oil change i took it off and lined the inside with dynamat. now she is as quiet as she ever was, and anything bouncing off the skid plate just makes a dull thud, as does kicking up the kick stand. best 20 buck mod on the whole bike.

I had mine installed yesterday and yes it does make more noise.
I am also looking for something to dampen the sound.

Only louder noise I hear is when I pull up the kick stand. It rings when it snaps in place. Rest of the time I hear nothing.
I do wear ear plugs all the time though.

Mine makes a buzzing/chirp sound right at 3000 rpm. At first I could only produce the sound when downshifting but later I found if I hover around 3000 rpm it will buzz. I must have looked like an idiot, riding around town while trying to reach down with my left foot to put pressure on the edge of the skid plate. As soon as I put pressure on it, though, the buzzing stopped. Drove me a little nuts until I figured out what that noise was. I think the culprit is the rear bracket vibrating against the skid plate. Anyway, I put a piece of rubber inner tube between that bracket and the plate and the sound went away.

Thanks for all the input. I'm certain the plate is amplifying some sounds. I just got in from a 1400 mile ride and still can't duplicate the certain drivetrain noise at will. It's about due for and oil change so with the plate off I'll ride it a day or two and pay attention to the noises it's making or not making with plate off. I'll live with the sound if I can prove it's simply the plate and not something more serious.

I have been replaying that sound in my head on and off since returning from this past trip. I came to point where I realized I was only hearing the driveline whine/roar when I was on gravel or off road. I don't recall hearing it or feeling it on pavement but I usually wear ear plugs when on pavement and ride without them off road. So my theory could be flawed. I am going to ride it some more this coming weekend and get to that magic number when I change the oil so plate removal will be in order. Then I will leave the plate off a few days and see what I hear. I have studied the schematics in the service manual and really don't see where it could go bad. There is a output shaft bearing in the area of the middle pinion gear which is about where the noise is coming from but also that is the same location the plate mounts to the footpeg frame location. No unusual noises when spinning the rear wheel with no engine running or coasting with engine off. It all spins smoothly. I am almost 100% certain it has somehting to do with the plate since it first appeared on the first ride in CO with the plate on. I had not rode the bike with the plate on prior to that trip. It did it plenty on this past weekends trip which consisted of a lot of gravel off road riding. I can back shift it pretty aggressively on pavement or lug it upshifting coasting down paved grades and I don't hear that noise. Strange but to be honest I've been on chain driven bikes my whole life. The bike always had a decel whine which doesn't sound abnormal I just wonder if that plate is amplifying that in some way just more so when on gravel.
