not to be bashing the alt bars but do you think it was a good idea to mount the top of the bar in the plastic tabs under the lights looks like it could be a problem breaking them off .

I think they are trying to support the plastic by attaching it to something rigid, not the other way around.

I sent Altrider a question about compatibility with the PIAA lights mounted under the headlights......lets see what they say.

Took my bike over today so they could see how it would line up on the older style crash bars, I have the PIAA lights on mine. The bar will not mount with the PIAA's in place as the upper bracket uses some of the same mounting holes that the PIAA light brackets do. You would have to use some bar attachments in order to mount the lights to the upper bar. I would say that the bar mainly serves as a mounting point for things rather than any serious crash protection though.

Thank you for that information. Since I already have the PIAAs mounted under my headlights, and the lower crash bars, I am going to pass on these new bars. But I do like the way they look.

It's interesting. I don't see a lot of market for that product. I say this because many of my potential customers for the Rumbux crash bar system waffle because they don't like the look of the upper crash bars due to the hoop that runs up and under the headlights and back down to the other side crash bar. On the Rumbux system, that is all one welded unit of construction for the entire upper crash bars, (making for a darn big shipping box), so very strong. But the potential customers that opt to go with AltRider, do so often simply for the esthetic aspect of not having that feature, just separate side bars.

On the Rumbux system, the upper center tie in does not mount to the light tabs, but uses a metal flat bar to fun farther in and bolt to the bottom of the long bolt connecting the instrument sub frame to the bike. Neither set up allows for the oem light fitment position to be utilized due to the bar interfering with the lights. Rumbux does sell light brackets for the oem H7 lights that are a three piece unit, with a yoke for the oem lights, so that they can be fitted to the crash bars, should you have them.

Just got an email from Altrider regarding the compatibility of these new upper bars with the PIAA lights kit that mounts under the headlights. Sounds like they are tweaking the prototype bars to explore if they can make them fit with the PIAA lights. That is promising......

Yes, we are in the process of tweaking this design -- this was a very early prototype to validate the fitment. We can't say for sure how the final bars will look as we are designing another prototype at the moment, though we are considering eliminating the under-headlight mounting location to allow the use of OEM and other aftermarket lights. The majority of the strength of these upper bars comes from the lower crash bar mounting locations. It'll be a few weeks before we get the next prototype in, but we'll definitely be putting up some more pictures as we get closer to the final design. If you guys have any other questions feel free to let us know.

It's important to make the distinction between the oem H7 halogen PIAA lights and the PIAA 530LEDs that many dealers were selling as Yamaha lights, but were not plug and play. They are not the same size.
