Really like these talks on Big Tanks. Your tank is only as large as the smallest tank in your group. 200 miles is all you need in North America. Maybe more for the other 2% of your riding. There is only about 1% of us that are going around the world, so those guys can buy larger tanks. Most of us will never need the extra capacity. Ever ridden a GSA? Its a pig compared to the standard GS or even our S10s.
Well I sort of get the point but I can fit 14Litres in a 30litre tank bit not 30litres in a 14litre tank. For the extra kilo of tank I'll take the extra fumes when I don't need it. Then the extra is only a few more seconds at a pump. There is shit loads of nothingness out in the middle of Oz and most fuel is based around the range of a diesel or petrol truck or car, not a sports bike and when you do get it it's not fancy pants high octane stuff either.
Unless you want to be stuck playing with all the GS's on the coast you need capacity, especially if the going is tougher than expected. That can either be a bunch of stuff strapped to the back or something a bit more convenient. All for the sake of what? a 0.01 second quater mile time or the fact that it may be heavier to pick up and ride off IF you have it filled to the brim.
Seems to me that that extra kilo of tank is being made into some big deal that is way out of proportion to the weight. It's 0.5% of a 200kg bike. I can understand that on a track 200metres from the pits, but in the middle of nowhere it's a bit different.
So sure stick with the 14Litre job and give me a factory option for 1 more Kilo of tank if it makes people happy.
