I do not want a 450lb 70hp dirt wanna be. If they got the ST7 made and down to under 400# I would consider it, but at 450# it better have more ponies.

......

And btw, whoever said that the 09 is not viable because it gets the same fuel economy as the big Ten....anyone who ride a motorcycle specifically because of mileage should buy a scooter and forget bikes....
So how much does the extra fuel weigh for a 450-500km range then?

Because...

...30 extra lbs beats walking in 45C Heat.

So a huge tank is only heavy when it's full so, range please rather than more plumbing and stuffing around.

Im agreeing with you Graham.

I want range as well. I am saying a factory undertail or underseat tank built in. Bring it up to 6.5-7 gal.

I like range, and economy...economy is not a priority to me though. Range is. I am building a tank for my Ten right now.

Really like these talks on Big Tanks. Your tank is only as large as the smallest tank in your group. 200 miles is all you need in North America. Maybe more for the other 2% of your riding. There is only about 1% of us that are going around the world, so those guys can buy larger tanks. Most of us will never need the extra capacity. Ever ridden a GSA? Its a pig compared to the standard GS or even our S10s.

Well I sort of get the point but I can fit 14Litres in a 30litre tank bit not 30litres in a 14litre tank. For the extra kilo of tank I'll take the extra fumes when I don't need it. Then the extra is only a few more seconds at a pump. There is shit loads of nothingness out in the middle of Oz and most fuel is based around the range of a diesel or petrol truck or car, not a sports bike and when you do get it it's not fancy pants high octane stuff either.

Unless you want to be stuck playing with all the GS's on the coast you need capacity, especially if the going is tougher than expected. That can either be a bunch of stuff strapped to the back or something a bit more convenient. All for the sake of what? a 0.01 second quater mile time or the fact that it may be heavier to pick up and ride off IF you have it filled to the brim.

Seems to me that that extra kilo of tank is being made into some big deal that is way out of proportion to the weight. It's 0.5% of a 200kg bike. I can understand that on a track 200metres from the pits, but in the middle of nowhere it's a bit different.

So sure stick with the 14Litre job and give me a factory option for 1 more Kilo of tank if it makes people happy.

I disagree RED CAT.

I want more fuel on board. If I am going to be heavy, I want it in fuel over unnecessary farkles and kitchen sinks.

I have run out of fuel twice since December because of closed gas stations I normally use and on rides I could complete without needing fuel when I did them on my BMW.

I ride alone most of the time, so your point on smallest tank in your group is mute for me.
I have also been with a group where 2 other guys ran out of gas {again a closed gas station that is normally open} and I had enough fuel on board to drain off a bit and we all got into the next station...on fumes but got there.

Then as the story about Greg and I when I ran out of gas, as long as 1 person has gas if you are in a group, they can run and pick up fuel and save the day....more fuel please.

Hey Graham, I'm with you on one point for sure:

If I DO run outta gas, chances are I'd rather be in the U.S. Outback than the OZ. :)

That is an amazing amount of real estate for only 22 million folks. I rode on PAVEMENT in one area and never saw a car for 4 hours.

It was fantastic, of course. But hard to remember "stay left" when you go so long without a reminder. Lol

What is the Yamaha equivalent of a congressman we can all write too :D

Yes, Greg, I am still scarred...mad at myself for breaking my own rule of never passing gas....well fuel ::)
I pass gas regularly...the methane type of gas...
Never a gas station, not with the FZ.. no sir!

:)

no but seriously, we don't have anyone to write to. I hope my buddy that has the yami contact, passes the info on to them.
Something tells me those devils are working on something already...

If I were a betting man, and I am not, I would take odds that anything they are working on would be based more on the -07 twin rather than the -09/3.
The -07/2 is a fine motor and I am sure it will be a nice bike, but it just doesn't twist my nipples, not that I am into nipple twisting.. :D
If the -07/2 based ADV bike were under 400#...I would look at it, but I doubt that.
The triple revs my motor much more.
