Hey everybody. I am a new s10 owner and getting what I think are outrageous quotes for the 2014 S10. Around 4-6k per year. Located in CA, 27 yrs old, no accidents, tickets, etc. When I ask why it's so high they say it's because the s10 is a 1200cc bike. I paid a fraction of those prices for a supersport when I was 19.

Can someone recommend a good company in CA?

Just to confirm, you're talking $4,000 - $6,000 per year? That's crazy.
I live in San Diego, 33 years old, good driving record, and pay $1,500/yr for four bikes, and I think that's too high, but can't find anything lower. Insured through Progressive.

I recently switched from progressive. 28 y/o - same driving history. was paying $609/year. Just switched to Wadena for equal coverage, $439/year.

Did you ask them if you got a kiss for getting bent over that hard? That's coverage I'd expect if you had 2 OWI's on your resume... ???

Call around - plenty of insurance companies out there who'd be glad to have your business.

Are they listing the Tenere as a sport bike? I remember early on nobody knew where the Tenere fit in the grand scheme of things. Is that quote from shopping around?

I had been with Progressive for years (and years) when I got rid of my ST1300 and purchased the Super Tenere. Their quote was nearly $1,000/year so I shopped around. I went with Nationwide....same coverage as I'd been carrying for $439/year. I'm 53 y/o, no accidents, no tickets, reside in a fairly rural area in Texas.

American modern is hard to beat. 980 year quoted from progressive. 320 from AM.

Reminder, all these quotes are ballpark at best. Your location, history, and elected coverage are big factors in your case.

Things that apply to insurance. California has high rates. Married or Single is a big difference. Rent or Own your home. Credit rating. Driving record. Type of motorcycle. Size of engine. ...

AAA thought it was a sport bike and would not change their mind. Last year AAA came up with their own motorcycle insurance but were still VERY high. I have had insurance with AAA for 42 years.

I went with Foremost. The agent that advertised in Friction Zone magazine... but I did not know this at the time I contacted him. He is now retired and enjoying riding his motorcycle. The new agent does not ride but does well with insurance.

Shop around. Check motorcycle magazine and webpage advertisements.

Thanks all. Appreciate the great advice. AAA was the highest quote and they thought it was a sports bike as well. I'll check progressive and some other companies.

I left progressive too. I was with them for 7 years on a $19000 Harley paying $450 a year. They wanted $700 a year for the tenere. I went to all state for $340 for the year.

Progressive has been our best bet the last 4 years or so. I've priced several times. I like the online approach as you can work you options yourself, see what is expensive and what is less so. I recommend a lot of accessory coverage.... they pay that at new purchase price. DAMHIK

I have 100/300K with 500 deductible with Nationwide and pay $178/yr for the Tenere. Married, homeowner, cars/house/bike with Nationwide. Under 40y/o. Of course, they just quoted me nearly $600 on the FZ09 I want.

My bike has full coverage in CA with Allstate. They were really confused at first with quotes all over the place, then the agent found out that they needed enter the bike in their system as "Yamaha Super Tenere". Then it quoted correctly. $350, but I'm an old rider with a combined discount.

Try Markel. They specialize in motorcycles and other toys. 1-800-236-2453. Used them for years and very reasonable. They were the best place when the auto insurers were outrageously priced. Now my auto ins. co. is very reasonable. Most expensive part is un-insured motorist.

You guys might really want to give geico a call as I'm paying about $100 less a year? Could be worth your time.

Are you on the north west corner of Oregon? Oregon is not California in the insurance world. We get killed in CA.
