A Super WHAT?

Well I started my shopping today for a Tenere here in Montgomery. Our dealer did not have one and the only one they sold was to the parts manager. He was out to lunch when I stopped by so I didn't get to see it. Soon as I pulled out of the lot I called another about dealer about 40 min from Montgomery. When asked the sales person if they had a Super Tenere and the response was a very loud "SUPER WHAT". I tried to explain to him what the bike was but he put the phone down. I could here him in the background asking other staff if they knew what the hell I was looking for. When he came back to the phone I had him look it up online so he wouldn't think I was a nut. He was shocked this was a actual Yamaha motorcycle and he didn't know about it.
I wonder why Yamaha is trying to enter a niche market and not aquatically informing dealers and more importantly the consumer?

I think Yamaha tries. But some of the sales men and other employes don't really care. It's just a "job"....... Get one from a dealer you like and enjoy this awesome bike ! Welcome to the forum!!

This is one problem we do not have in the UK. Probably bacause the weather is so crap that no one buys cruisers.

I can pretty much assure you that all dealers are adequately informed but it certainly seems as though you found one that was only aquatically informed. Sorry, couldn't resist!!

As has been stated, many people really don't care too much to be informed. They just work til the next paycheck shows up.

Plenty of informed dealers out there. Give another a call. After you get one, ride over to the aquatically informed one and give them an education...or at least a lesson.

:D, Great idea, mean, but still good. You might even let them touch your new bike.

You might even let them see a picture of the other dealer smiling with a wad of cash.

Check with D&H in Cullman, they have good pricing and it looks like they are only about 140 miles away from you.

I ordered the only one here in Shreveport, and since, they got one more and sold it right away. Now they have a demo ordered and two more to come. They have a showroom full of sports bikes and cruisers and some MX types.

It could be worse, my local Yamaha dealership got bought by the Harley shop recently. I stopped to get the crush washers for the first service, and he asked me "Is that a four wheeler, or whut?" I had to point it out or his microfiche under the XTZ listing. The day I rode there, it was about 30 degrees. They acted like I landed in a space craft.

Howdy,
Talk about being uninformed! I walked into one showroom in one state which is part of a multistate dealer network and found a black Tenere sitting on the floor. Took it for a test ride and bought it only to find out it was already sold, there was a buyer who had put down the $500 deposit in another state at another one of their dealerships and kept asking where his bike was? Since I thought it was mine I was very tender on the demo ride. ;D The dealer did make good and found me a black Tenere from another dealer at the agreed upon price, including trade in value.
Later,
Norm

Wow, microfiche is still in use? I've been out of the parts dept for years, I would have thought everything was online by now. I used to hate doing the monthly replacements.

Yes, they're super-micro these days. Little things called bits and bytes that you can't even see. Man, this technology thing is outta control..you blink ur eyes and 15 years fly by!.....or is that just one very long "senior moment?" :)

Pretty common experience (unfortunately...) now and even "then".

Worked in a Kawasaki/Hodaka/Can-Am shop in the 70's (yeah, Im older than dirt) and the lack of knowledge by the "salesmen" of our bikes and the competitions would astound me....

Eventually moved to a sales position and was able to quote info on all the competitors. Haven't seen that in a long, long time.....

Most of the current "salesmen" could be working at the appliance dept at Sears....

Well I found a very knowledgeable small dealer in Auburn, Al. He doesn't have one but did find a Tenere that he said he could get. Quoted me $14,800 out the door. Does that price seem reasonable ?

Out the door meaning can vary. What is his price without tax and any registration fees? I'm thinking you can do better elsewhere....

You should sell him yours, and then get a black one. You know you want to ...... R ::012:: ::012::
