Hmm...do you all think the new Yamaha XT700 would outsell its counterparts? Is Yamaha bringing anything unique to the market that currently BMW (F800GS), Triumph (Tiger 800 XC) or Honda (Africa Twin) is not offering? I don't think there will be major shake up in the market. Yamaha brand loyalists may go for it, but otherwise it could well just be another option available to pick in the 700-1000cc range.
I actually meant existing Yamaha fans would buy, although there is always room for conquest sales. The Ténéré was along with Honda's AT the grand-daddy of this 'explore the world' phenomena (Although the R80GS should be included in that group) so it would do well to capitalise on that market, light-weight, easy and low cost maintenance would be it's selling points, not just the 1st world but emerging markets that have more spending power would benefit from a 'world' bike. The XT660Z has done really well in Europe/ Aus and NZ and would do just aas well in North America if it's engine was more up to date regarding emissions. Just my 2 cents......

I test rode the new Tracer 7 or 700, or whatever they call it this time. I came to the dealer and they just tossed me the keys. This bike will be more or less the weight of the new Tenere 700. While there's nothing new about the power plant, the ergos are completely different. It is also quite heavier than the siblings (MT, XRS...)with it's 196kg wet.If the mama Yama can keep the same weight for the coming Tenere, I would definitely go for it. This 700cc Twin with it's 75 ponies is so sweet. It revs happily and it's very keen on fuel. With only just slightly bigger weight2power ratio, I doesn't feel slower at all, at least with only me on the bike. The lack of torque compared to S10 is another story, but that one comes with 70 kilo penalty.
It think that for someone that travels 50/50 on off, and only seldom with the pillion, I think the new Tenere will be spot on. Let's wait and see. Milano is not so far away...

Someone commented aerlier abut the FJ-09 looking a bit cheap? I agree as I have looked at them a couple of times now. i am sure the 843cc triple is a kick ass engine, but the riding position and smallish overall size (for me) was a deal-breaker. I also thought the fit and finish looked a bit on the cheap side as well. Not trying to bash the bike, just my initial impressions.
