I want the 700 as I'm finding the 1200 is getting a bit heavy for the type of riding I've been doing.

Speaking to my local dealer, they said that the MT-10 is due as a Tracer (FJ-10) in 2017, as the sales of the MT-10 have gone better than they expected...... Having seen the MT-10 in the flesh, although not my cup of tea, is actually really nice.

Interesting comment and timing. When I pulled up the quote above I saw that we've been waiting for the mythical 700 since at least early 2014.

I think it is beyond mythical, but not sure if we will see it stateside or even North America for at least a year.

I'm in the same boat, I like the ergos of the S10 and 1200GS, but not the weight, even rode the 800GS this week, looked at the Triumph 800XRT today but both seem suited to smaller riders, I really like the XT660Z Tenere, but it's a single pot and a bit long in the tooth, although the seating just just great, and light!!

I just don't know if a parallel twin can be as stout as the current ST for loading and riding 400-500 miles days.

The mt10 is already here. The FZ-10. Rode one today and it is an incredible naked bike.

The FZ-10 is an amazing looking bike in person, love the front end of that bike. I'd probably get myself dead if I got one of those :-D

I don't understand this statement. Do you mean because it will be a smaller displacement engine?

I'm sorry. Yeah I think the 700 twin will be more along the lines of an Enduro 690, size and carrying capacity should be similar. The ST I rode last weekend seemed to be a stout, rock solid bike that could haul a load. I don't think a 700 will be as stout. I also rode a FJ-09 right after it. That bike felt a little cheap to me, and also made me think of whether or not you could load it up. Loved the engine however.

Just load it a bit less and go uphill slower, as with the 650 WeeStrom.

I rode my Kawasaki Versys 650 all over the US. Many 600 mile days with no problems. Full panniers and a rear box. That bike was the best.

This is just a set of drawings by a lone designer in Italy, NOT something from Yamaha. Clearly, he based them on the MT09 series, but then gave them XT series features like the Tenere has.

Nice to look at but they are vapor.

Hmm...do you all think the new Yamaha XT700 would outsell its counterparts? Is Yamaha bringing anything unique to the market that currently BMW (F800GS), Triumph (Tiger 800 XC) or Honda (Africa Twin) is not offering? I don't think there will be major shake up in the market. Yamaha brand loyalists may go for it, but otherwise it could well just be another option available to pick in the 700-1000cc range.

IMHO, Yamaha should focus on upgrading the big Suoer Tenere. There is nothing out there that can match the reliability and low cost maintenance, and that should be their selling point. Yet most often the super Tenere is ignored during model comparisons. We all know the S10 is a far superior bike than most of the Eurpoesn counterparts (tried and tested personally). But the online reviews and comparisons do not do justice and these reviews and comments do play a major part in a new buyer's decision making process.
Most common complaints are the S10's lack of power, excessive weight (though they are marginal) and inability to switch off ABS (I am quite happy without this). The other is the S10s bland appearance which hasn't changed since 2010. If these are the points that sets the S10 below par, why isn't Yamaha fixing these and try to re-penetrate the 1200cc adventure market instead of trying to enter a totally new market like the already flooded 700-1000cc range?

Apologies for whining like this. It's a long weekend and I am stuck indoors because it's pouring out here. ::010::
