And I think the '14 will hold it's value quite a bit better than the '12 or '13, but I don't know if it's going to be worth $3k more in say 2 years than a '13. Personally I am also looking to get a tenere but I'm hoping to find a lightly used '13 in white and with a lot of guys jumping to a '14 I hope I can find one for a good price.

Doesn't one of the differences involve the centerstand too? A little thing, I know... ::26::
The 2014's come with centerstands.

Adjustable brake and clutch levers, emergency flashers, and flash to pass also. Small things but nice to have.

Really, the best bargain is to find someone who is "upgrading" to the 14 and buy their 12/13 for $6-7k less than the 14.

Randy,

I'd work that price a little bit harder on the 2013. See if you can get a few more bucks off. I'd imagine you should be able to get one <$13k.

Then, I'd buy the 2013.

$100 Reflash
$900 shock
$600 forks
$75 heated grips

$1675 and you will have a bike customized to you, that will most likely perform better...but be missing cruise control (Excel or Kaoko ~$100) and an adjustable windscreen (~$100).

ES most likely isn't any better suspension components. Probably the wrong springs again, probably poor high speed damping. Most likely just some servo motors that adjust the low speed damping circuits when you push a button. Nothing you couldn't easily accomplish with a screwdriver and no added weight/complexity to the system.

I've seen enough problems on the Ohlins systems used on Ducatis to know I, personally, wouldn't touch a first-year ES model.

who's doing a flash for $100? I usually seen them around the $450 mark...
I know NIck is doing the FZ9 for $125 plus shipping.

I didn't get a whole lot of riding in today mostly ran a couple of errands and put stuff from my 2012 on the 14 but.

Left side controls so much going on with thick gloves beeped the horn instead of canceling turn signal. Power between T and S is more dramatic but it might be a more tame T setting as opposed to the S being uprated. Suspension so far feels very improved. I still find the power in S in both the 12 and the 14 more than adequate I don't see a ref lash in my future.

If we get decent temps might do some more "testing" tomorrow but I am going into a work week starting saturday night ::010::

I'll have to look at pictures again, I was pretty sure the base doesn't, and the ES does have the centerstand.
Off to go look some more.

The centerstand availability is a region thing, IIRC in Europe the base model doesn't have a centerstand, rear passenger grab handles and a few other items. Here in the US, the base model has pretty much everything the ES has except the electronic adjustable suspension and heated grips, so in the US the base model has a centerstand as well as the sidestand. If you look closely in the pictures on the Yamaha website you can clearly see it on the exhaust side of the bike....

None of them are overpriced. And ALL of them are full blooded Teneres. It's really winwinwinwin. :)

Get the one calling you. It's the one you want. And then don't look back. Go wear the Beast out.

I think the longer you wait the better the deal you will get with the 2013 model, they might start throwing in extras for free as well, I know in Australia their trying to get ride of all the 2012/13 models they have around the country before the 2014 comes here

Why wait when you can be riding? ::021::

I wouldn't trade my 2012 for a new one. Same bike with a few more things to break and a few more pounds it didn't need. Now a middle weight 900... :)

Put a deposit on a 13 and will pick it up when I get a ride to the dealership Thursday or Friday. Paying $13,500 OTD and not really worried if I can get better in two months or if the 14 is worlds better. Want to get it and ride it for a couple of years and evaluate if I like it to keep it, up grade to a 15 or 16 or get something different. Can get a 14 ES for $17,500 OTD so $4000 difference. Could prob find one cheaper I bet, but not worried.

That's about £8500 in our money, or what you would pay for a used 2011 / 2012 model in a dealers, we see Yamaha flogging off last years on pre-reg / demo deals (they are registered on the road by dealers to get them on last years registration stats so your looking at a bike that is about 4 months old but with 0 or a handful of miles) these are £9500 - $16,000

If only Yamaha did not see the UK as a place where they can get away with ripping folk off (List price for the basic S10 is about $20,000) they would sell loads of them, but a base GS is cheaper over here, the Versys 1000 / DL 1000 and Honda Crosstourer are all cheaper than the S10.

Wow. My buddy has $28,000. Cdn into his new 2014 GS1200. About $3500. worth of farkles included. My 2012 S10 new cost me $13,500. and maybe $2000. extra for farkles. So here a GS is almost twice the price of the S10. No thanks!

I sat around and thought about every scenario concerning whether or not to get a 13 or wait for a 14. In the end, I already knew how good the 12-13's are and they would fill my needs very well. Add to that, the White wasn't going to be available for 2014 and it was a no brainer. The price I paid for my 2013 was icing on the cake. I'm going to have mine fully outfitted and still be less $$ than what a new base 2014 would have cost.

First post and soon to be (this week) a new owner of a Super Tenere. I see on Cycletrader a lot of 2013's going for $11,990. My local dealer came down to $12,600 but is also being very generous with my trade in. Today I noticed on Yamaha's website they are offering $500 customer cash on the 2013's. Do you think the dealers offering the $11,990 price are including the $500 in the price, or could you get an additional $500 off the $11,990? I'm going to have my dealer verify as soon as they open today.

Thanks and looking forward to all the great information this site provides.

Most of the time with such ads, the fine print mentions that all rebates are included. It is also important to check what their Out the door price, excluding tax, title and license is, so you know what they are charging, if anything, for freight, setup, doc fees, etc. The tax, title and license depend on individual states, so that price is fixed, but dealer add ons can vary a lot.

If the quote you got was before the rebate and the rebate doesn't have any dealer participation, you should be able to do $500 better. But the dealer may feel that with this incentive, he'll find another buyer so everything is up to the negotiations.
