I purchased one of these : JACO SmartPro Digital Tire Inflator Pump - Premium 12V Portable Air Compressor - 100 PSI.

I hooked it up to the power outlet, but it doesn't want to run. However, it runs fine when I hook it up to my car.

Is there any way to use this with the tenere?

Thanks

It MUST have a power lead from the battery that is separate from the power outlet. The power outlet is 3A and the compressors draw 5-7A. If you put a heavier fuse in for the existing power outlet you will probably melt the wire, which is sized for a max 3A load. That wire also is bundled with wires you don't want to have damaged.

The fuse is in the box under the right side panel. I'm assuming the compressor has a cigarette lighter connector, since you tried to use the dash port. Basically, you need to add a port directly to the battery (with a fuse). You could wire up a pair of alligator clips so you can clip directly to the battery terminals with the other end being a cigarette jack. You could also simply clip the plug off of the compressor cable, and wire up a pair of alligator clips directly (again, putting an appropriate fuse in line on the positive side).

It turns out there are 2 spare fuses. What a pleasant surprise that was! Love you Yamaha! Took the spare 3Amp and replaced the blown one. The auxiliary DC jack works now.

@AVGeek, Thanks. I will look up how to implement your suggested solutions. I never messed with the electronics before.
