Re: Cigarette Adapter Fuse?

The fuse for the DC Adapter is 3 amps. Replace the fuse, right-side panel, and install a SAE connector to the battery. Will work with a Battery Tender, Heated Gear, Air Pump.

Re: Cigarette Adapter Fuse

Thanks. Anyone know which fuse I should buy? Really new to this stuff, but trying to learn how to work on this bike myself.

Eastern Beaver makes a quality fuseblock setup (from what I've seen of many, many positive reviews online).

If you need just a basic setup, then the 3 Circuit Solution (3CS) is what you're looking for. It uses an auxiliary plug for the "on" switch so whatever's plugged into the kit will only be on when the bike is on. It will give you 3 power outputs.

The question actually misses the point that you can not just replace the fuse. As Helios so correctly points out,you need to add a new fused pwr source for this and any other electrical options you may want to add. The Eastern Beaver fuse block is a well known way too do so. Behind the upper right side panel is space for it too.

Re: Cigarette Adapter Fuse

I blew the fuse with an air pump when I first got my bike. I installled the Eastern Beaver solution for aux lights, heated gear (the connector of which does duty for air pump too) and for GPS. However, I also carry one of these cool items that I use to charge my phone, my Sena headset, and even use the 110 plug to charge my CPAP battery, all while riding and it has worked flawlessly so far. Does not blow the fuse, as I know someone will ask.

Okay, I'm a bit confused. I understand the purposes of an eastern beaver fuse block, but don't really need that right now. 99% of the time, I'm just charging my phone. I should theoretically just be able to replace the fuse, yes? I have a powerlet connector I can use for the air pump that the previous owner installed.

Sorry, it sounded like you were still trying to run a pump, which is what Helios and I were responding to.

Tiger's right and it is the only 3A, so not hard to spot. I don't remember the letter identifier for type (ATC, ATO, ATM, etc).

Simply replacing the fuse with a higher strength fuse will only cause you to have major heartache. The DC socket's wires are very thin and running higher current than the included 2amp fuse will most likely fry your wiring and may even start a fire.

If you're trying to run a pump but want to super simplify the process, then get the following two items:

Battery SAE connector: http://smile.amazon.com/Battery-Tender-081-0069-6-Terminal-Disconnect/dp/B000NCOKZQ/ref=sr_1_3?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1428945032&sr=1-3&keywords=sae+connector

SAE to DC Socket: http://smile.amazon.com/Battery-Tender-081-0069-8-Cigarette-Disconnect/dp/B0041CDPQO/ref=sr_1_5?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1428945044&sr=1-5&keywords=sae+connector+12v

Re: Cigarette Adapter Fuse

Thanks all. Sorry for not being clearer. The first owner of the bike installed an SAE connector. I idiotically used the cigarette adapter instead of the connector to try to power the pump and blew the fuse on the adapter. The pump works great through the SAE connector. I'm just trying to get the cigarette adapter working again to charge my phone/GPS. Planning to install an eastern beaver type product later when I can afford it. Really appreciate all the feedback thought. :)

1. Open the panel on the right side of the bike.
2. Look in the upper mid-center area amongst all the wiring. You'll see 2 rectangular boxes. These are the fuse boxes. IIRC, the cigarette fuse is in the right one and at the bottom.
3. Open fuse box (lid for each box shows the fuse layout) and look for a yellow 2 amp fuse.
4. Replace said fuse.

Re: Cigarette Adapter Fuse

A Stop & Go Mini Tyre Air Compressor 12v, Motorcycle Pump available in the UK (it may be sold under a different name in the US) will work using the S10 ciggy lighter and not blow the 3amp fuse.

The gauge of the wire is sized for a 3A load on untarnished new wire. Yes, you may get away with a slightly bigger fuse and load for a little, but I would highly caution against anything which could melt the stock 3A fuse.

It can take a couple of minutes to melt the insulation from a wire. We had a photo here a while ago of a melted wire in a Super Tenere from using one of the lower amperage (7.5-ish by memory) pumps. If it melts inside the harness or a previously melted thin spot later becomes exposed, you can get serious harness damage to essential circuits. As I keep saying, wire damage is cumulative and it does not heal itself.

Accessory Aux power

Be gentle with me guys, cos whilst I can and have pulled older bikes apart and put them back together again (mostly correctly) I have a mental block about modern bike electrics.

So here we go..I use the dash socket to power my Garmin 660, I would like to use a switched feed instead.

Other bikes I've had provide a positive and neutral feed for this purpose....but I don't know if there is one on my 2014 S10

Any help/advice would be appreciated, remember I am at best only average with latest bike electronics :(

Re: Accessory Aux power

My solution was to install an Eastern Beaver PC 8 fusebox. You can buy a wiring harness made specifically for the Super Tenere, which plugs into a switched lead under the right side cover. It's very much a plug and play installation; no splicing or soldering necessary. Just attach the leads from your new outlet to the switched circuits on the PC 8, and you'll have a switched outlet.

The site for Eastenn Beaver is www.easternbeaver.com. He makes an excellent product.

I'm no expert on wiring either, but this really is a pretty easy installation. There are other threads on here about installing the PC8, including mine. Here's a link to my album that shows how I put mine in: http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?action=media;sa=album;in=75

This is a link describing another member's installation. It has some good photos, including some of the location of the switched lead on the bike that is used to connect to the PC8 harness.

Re: Accessory Aux power

I used the power from the stock 12V Oultlet on my 2012 and are temporarily using it on my 2015. Both were/are switched.

Thanks, and same here as I'm using the socket on the instrument facia to power my GPS but would rather hard wire to the bike permanently

I've looked at the Eastern Beaver products which are superb all I need to do now is to check that the aux outlet under the side panel wasn't used when my PIA lights were installed :)

Re: Accessory Aux power

Another block option is the Denali Powerhub 2. Almost fits like it was meant to be there. Depending on where unplace the fuse its either hot power or switched power. Cheers
