Do not deal with any dealer that will not take a a p/x. I hate UK bike dealers, they are the worst in the motortrade, they all do you a favour by selling you a bike!!
Even if he didn't want your bike as p/x, then he should be able to have it underwritten by a BMW dealer or biketrader and move it straight on and offer you the price he gets offered, he is just being lazy,

BMW are the king of the demo, no question, most dealers have most models available and many will let you have a bike for half a day. With Yamaha it tends to be just the latest models and the biggest sellers and not all demo bikes at all dealers.

As mentioned the dealer should at least underwrite the bike by calling a BMW dealer / trader to underwrite the value. Most Jap dealers are not keen to sell BMW's so don't expect a top px, you could also try ringing a few BMW dealers for a cash sale (but I bet they will take the piss when your not buying another) you could also sell privately.

I know they are nowhere near you, but I had awesome service from Slocombes Yamaha in Wembley who once were a BMW dealer - maybe worth a ring, and On Yer Bike at Aylesbury have had good deals on S10's and I have seen them selling a GS off their forecourt before so may also be worth a call.

Regarding spoke corrosion. It isn't "rust" in the normal sense. It appears to be a darkening, or blackening of the metal. More of a patina than anything else. I personally dont mind it and as I ride the bike everyday, I certainly cant be bothered to keep them shiny all the time. They get a good clean and polish once a year and that's it.

The hole in the frame where the rubber plug is, is definitely a moisture trap. Either remove the plug and keep it open to air, which removes the problem, or put some preventative treatment on the metal there and then paint it with black paint.

I'm not sure if they do this in the UK, but Yamaha has a traveling demo bike truck that travels around to different dealers. This is how I was able to test ride several Yamahas (including a '15 es) before I purchased my bike. I'm not familiar with the Star lineup (cruisers) but all the Street legal sport/sport touring/adventure bikes were there.

+1 on the Yamaha truck.
For anybody able to make the Romney WV Camp-N-Ride we have the Yamaha truck coming at the end of this month.

You came to a Tenere Forum your going to get haggled into a Tenere, some others here will try to sail you into the BMW sand bar.
In the end you have to decide no bike is perfect.
But I have to say I am happy with the Ford ranger of motorcycles..
I have a 2003 Ranger with 239000 miles and still purrs, but everything around it is falling apart though!! :D

This is the 3rd year on my Tenere the only corrosion I have noticed so far is the resale value previously stated. ::007:: Still enjoy riding it though.
