Revenge of the Dalton: Rear diff leak and clutch cover leak.

I didn't try to tighten the cover because others that have with the dowel issue seem to have cracked it. I'm hoping to get some time this week to tear it all down and check parts prices. If the clutch cover gasket isn't expensive I'll most likely just change it for peace of mind.

Revenge of the Dalton: Rear diff leak and clutch cover leak.

Well, with only one response on the clutch cover I guess I'll just assume it's the dowel until proven otherwise and get the gasket. I have had zero time to work on it, so waiting for parts won't hurt much.

    Guess what...

I think you'll be surprised how little 80/90 weight gear oil you are actually losing. It really spreads out and makes a mess, but mine was never more than a tiny amount low. Good luck.

    Guess what...

I rode mine 2000 miles after it started leaking, but it was as bad as your in that pic at the end of 2000 miles. It was just a slight leak at the beginning. Trikepilot linked my post, which got one reply after a lot of views. I hope you get more help. I'd check the level and ride it, providing...

Revenge of the Dalton: Rear diff leak and clutch cover leak.

Thanks for the link, I can't recall seeing that picture before. I either missed that thread because of search terms like "differential" instead of "final drive", or skimmed it and missed the on topic stuff because of all the talk about sales numbers of BMW motorcycles. I'm thinking the seal...

Revenge of the Dalton: Rear diff leak and clutch cover leak.

Well, after an epic trip up to Deadhorse and back, my bike is showing the results of over 8k miles in 15 days. Nothing too troubling, but I wanted to get some experienced opinions before I begin the post flight tear down. I have searched and I think I found all the diff leak threads, and all the...

    North to Alaska

I'm not going alone, group of two for most of the trip, but we meet a friend from the west coast in Dawson Creek. We are not planning on going through Hyder, it's a whirlwind tour. Almost 8k miles in 14 riding days, one rest day. I'll be on a blue ST with a Wee Strom and a blue FJR, holla if you...

I'll be making the trip to Deadhorse at the beginning of next month, looking forward to your thoughts and appreciating what you've posted so far.

    Tool Storage

I finally got to this project, and had a piece of 14g stainless bent to match the contour of the factory passenger seat. I think 16g would have been enough, but it's plenty stout. It just took a little longer to whittle the tabs out when I got it home. The sheet from the metal shop: Roughed in...

    Tool Storage

I'm bumping this thread looking to see if anyone has done a Pelican or similar case in place of the Passenger seat. I'm considering making one that fastens just like the passenger seat itself, for solo trips. I've already got side and top cases, but I was thinking it would be a nice place to put...

    Fuel Trip Meter Pictures

That is a good idea. On that tank I don't remember for sure, it was most likely not ethanol. That's what I run by choice. What I meant by "spare fuel" wasn't auxiliary tanks, it was a can to save you if you ran out. That eliminates the gamble.

    Fuel Trip Meter Pictures

::006:: No fair if you're carrying spare fuel. This isn't my personal best, but I just thought of doing this thread on my way to the pump. I only put in 5.6 gallons, so it wasn't really close to walking levels. I also don't do this very often, but sometimes it's nice to know I can go 30+ on...

What you did to your Tenere today??!!

Put my Givi Crash bars on, got a set of K60's delivered from RideonADV, and installed a Helmethook ( http://www.extuff.biz/ ) to hold my helmet when I don't want to lock it onto my Jesse's.

    Screaming Banshee Horn?

I did order the split screamer, the install was easy and it really works great. I keep forgetting to link it to the lights, it's kind of one of those things you forget about until someone tries to merge into you.

What you did to your Tenere today??!!

I have tried all the bags you linked, and the one I linked fits the best. The first husky one we use on at work, the second one I use to hold my tool roll and some loose stuff like zip ties on the bike. The one I linked fills that space much better, the others are longer than they are square...
