Keep hearing about people in our circle who got COVID at Christmas and two died.
Most got mild symptoms, except for the two who had been anti-vaxxers.

At this point I don’t think I’ll get another covid vaccination until they come out with the multivalent versions tailored to the variants. My mind could be changed by the data, but that’s my thinking today.

I'm assuming this will end up like the flu shot. They'll pick the top three variants they expect to see, and produce the shot. At least the current vaccine is relatively effective against the current variations.

Interesting article about how the virus has mutated and become less deadly. Bottom line is that the shots protect the lungs so well that Omicron targets the mouth and upper respiratory tract where it is MORE contagious but can do less deadly damage. Very much like Sierra1 described.
All the pushing for everybody getting a shot has led toward newer forms of COVID becoming something we can live with, not die from, even if we get it more than once.

It's not clear yet that the omicron variant will displace the other strains. They could coexist. A very small South African study (only 13 people) suggests that omicron adds immunity to previous strains, and may displace it, but that is such a small sample size I hesitate to draw any conclusions.

Just read today that Pfizer plans to have a vaccine booster specifically tweaked to target omicron available by March.

Perfect, I'll be ready for my 4th shot by then :)

A few current stats from Denmark:
96% of the positive tests are now Omicron.
+95% of Covid patients in intensive care is infected with the Delta variant.
+95% of Covid patients in intensive care have not been vaccinated.

Good news, friends! Some interesting research results from Oregon State University.
Cannabis and COVID

Appears that some of the base acids in cannabis bind to COVID spike proteins. At least in a lab setting. This binding would theoretically reduce the ability for COVID to infect humans so easily. High temperatures alter the acids, so no smoking. But edibles prepared at low temp? Maybe time for some field trials.

Sister is about 90% ok now had some prescribed antibiotics and vitamins , she had an annoying cough for a while and when she beat that things improved fairly quick. Her man who had the original 19 way back had very little go wrong with him he actually still went out hunting in the weekends.

Down here in NZ we have 2 cases of Omicron, 23 Covid cases in the community and 44 at the border (managed isolation quarantine) only a matter of time now
but with any luck it will pass thru well before winter. Looking at other countries its pleasing to see Omicron doesnt seen as bad.

Around New Year, as I reported here our daughter and her family all contacted the virus. Very very mild symptoms (Runny nose ) for a few days and that was it. No after effects. Most restrictions which were in place here have now been lifted. Restaurants, pubs and night clubs are now open as normal before the virus. The use of masks is advisory on public transport and in shops. Hopefully the return to normality continues

While Omicron may in general be milder, a lot more people here are getting it and the the ICU's in Minnesota are still loaded up with COVID cases. The large majority of the new ICU patients are unvaccinated

I have attended 3 funerals in the last 2 weeks for people who died from COVID related complications. 2 of the 3 had declined the vaccine. The third had a bunch of complications (diabetes, obesity, kidney cancer, bipolar medication )
