Anyone ever try to use a yeti cooler as a top box? I received a Yeti Roadie 20 as a gift from my employer but i don't have much use for it. I was going to throw it in the attic (thought about selling it but it was a gift) and then i thought its almost the right dimensions for a top box, its tough, it locks, and its completely sealed. In your opinion is this a good idea and what do you think is the best way to secure the yeti?

I thought about buying the touratech passenger seat rack and rear rack to strap the cooler down, but im afraid it could grow legs and walk off if its only strapped, plus the 2 racks cost about $240, i could buy a real top box for that price.

Securing it and the weight would be two biggest drawbacks. I wouldn't drill through bottom to permanently attach as IMO it would ruin it and, they're heavy!

Wow, what a nice gift! Couldn't find a weight spec, but I agree, the materials have o be pretty dense and heavy to do what they claim.

I would thing that might be a bad idea on a couple of levels. First the weight! Yeti's are heavy! They also don't have much room in them for the size they are! Lastly if you would drill and screw or bolt the cooler to your rear plate I'd think you would crack the cooler sooner or later. They are pricy to boot!

Heavy! I recently bought a 50 liter to replace my Coleman 48 extreme. I have used the Yeti 3 times so far and really wish I had not bought it. It takes two people to move it when full.

I bought a 45, mostly because it seemed to be the most popular.
Got it home and realized how small it was in the interior.
Took it back and replaced it with the 65.
It's a very good cooler, it does take up a lot of space and it's very heavy!
If you use block type ice it will amaze you how long it lasts!
Worth the money probably not!
You have to go threw a lot of ice and spoiled food, to get anywhere close to your money back!!!!
