Just trying to do my part to keep CO well represented in the S10 community .
I actually picked up my 14 ES last fall after narrowing my choices down to the S10 or a Stelvio. I've been riding a KTM 950 Adventure the last few years and don't plan on selling it, but I wanted a comfortable, two-up, street bike that I could also take on the occasional gravel or jeep road, and something that would be 100% dead nuts reliable (just ruled out a new KTM).
No doubt in my mind that the S10 is a keeper. I've got a little over 4k miles on it now and I've been putzing around adding a few accessories and mods to personalize it.
So far here's what I've done:
Yamaha tall windscreen & wings. Very pleased, and the least expensive option I could find.
Jesse luggage. I had a set of Jesse bags on a BMW several years ago and I'm very impressed with the product. I bought the luggage this winter when they were throwing in a top case with the purchase of a set of hard bags. I haven't mounted the top case, but the bags went on easily and should work just fine.
Russell seat. I bought the Russell seat this winter when they had their 15% off sale. The jury is still out on the new seat. I'm really not liking the restricted feeling that the big wings cause. I sent the seat back to Russell and they modified the wings but I haven't had a chance to try the modified seat out yet. Honestly, if somebody thought they wanted a Russell seat and would be willing to trade me their stock seat and a fair price, I'd probably let the seat go.
AVC8130 Reflash. This is maybe the best $240 I've ever spent on a motorcycle. I was very unimpressed with Yamaha's fuel mapping or whatever it's called that controls the fuel injection. My S10 was lethargic in the T mode, and like riding a bucking bronco in the S mode. Compared to the smooth linear power delivery of my old tech carbureted 950, my new S10 was a real disappointment. I can't recommend this mod highly enough to anyone who anybody who thinks they might need to clean up their fuel injection. It made the bike MUCH more enjoyable to ride.
I've met a couple of the S10 guys up here in the Arkansas Valley but am looking forward to meeting more of the S10 crew. If anyone is planning to ride up here, give me a shout.
