I think I read this comparison. It panned the BWN GSA so it would have panned the S10.

To each his or her own. I love my 2014 S10 ES. Great bike for large guys wanting to do all roads and interstate trips.

Better comparison would be to see which of those bikes are still running in 3yrs with the least amount of service work. ;D

Three Euro "boutique" bikes and a Honda, then talk about the Honda being cheaper and running reliably.

I've noticed the Tenere is left out of a lot of these comparisons. I don't know if it's bias or maybe Yamaha just isn't that willing to provide loaner bikes for these "tests" as often as the others.

I think a lot of moto-journos (or perhaps more correctly their editors) just have an extremely short attention spans and aren't interested in anything that's not brand new or heavily revised. Squirrel!

Yea, this has been going on for as long as I've been into motorcycles, 46yrs now. They mostly only care about 2 things, either the fastest, or the one that spends most with them advertising. Never any care of how long it lasts, how much it costs to keep running. The Super Tenere simply has no competition in this regard, but they don't care. Yamaha not the fastest and obviously doesn't spend as much money in advertising as these others. Doesn't matter to me. Remember the V45 Honda Interceptor back in 1983? No magazine cared about any other 750, then 4000 miles later they were junk. Do they ever come back and say they picked the worst 750 and touted it as god of motorcycles? I read owners reports, magazines are biased too heavily to even bother to read what they say in any comparison.

If there is no major changes, or updates to a bike, it will not be included in any tests, because there is nothing new or updated to test or compare to, that has not already been tested...

The mags do the same thing to the Honda ST1300. A great sport touring bike, that never makes it into any tests, or comparisons because it has been basically unchanged since 2005 with the exception of color.

I feel the Tenere is in the same predicament now, basically unchanged except for cruise and ES. All Yamaha does now is offer different colors.

Nothing for the magazines to test, and why compare it when they already have compared it to everything back in the day?

If they bumped up the HP, or lowered the weight some, it might gain some interest again...

They included it in this and promptly smashed the engine case letting all the oil out and that was that for the Tenere.

Not sure why they didn't at least put the Yamaha Skid plate on it. others had skids, but maybe they are all included, not an option.

2016 Motorcycle.com Wire Wheel Adventure Shootout
The one overriding edict in choosing this year’s consortium of adventure bike players is obvious from the story’s title – spoked-hoops, which essentially demonstrates a manufacturer’s commitment to the off-road worthiness of its bike. The introduction of Honda’s new Africa Twin has the potential of re-racking the pecking order in motorcycling’s hottest category, so we gathered five of its likely competitors that are either top-rated or recently updated. The Honda bridges engine displacements, ranging from Triumph’s 800cc Tiger XCx to Yamaha’s 1199cc Super Ténéré ES, and we also included ADV icons like KTM’s 1190 R Adventure and BMW’s what-will-they-think-of-next R1200GS Adventure, plus Ducati’s radical A-T entrant, the new Multistrada Enduro.

I just sold off my 2003 ST1300 a couple of months ago and as you said, there were no real good articles or comparisons on it recently but honostly... it's an amazing motorcycle, it doesn't have the upgrades of all the newer bikes but even my 2003 had electronic windscreen and ABS and linked brakes.. It would of been perfect if it had cruise control! Such a smooth, quiet and amazingly fuel efficient motorcycle.
