OOH, looks like Yamaha will be reveling a new (touring?) motorcycle this June.
Makes sense seeing they discontinued the Royal Star.

That's what the Venture used to be. Of course, the new VMax motor is MUCH "healthier".

PERSONALLY, I don't think they will attempt another touring bike; Gold Wing is too entrenched and capable to compete with. It was the reason that other three Japanese manufacturers stopped competing head-to-head with it. Also, I don't see enough Spyders to make it a worthwhile market to get into. As popular as adventure bikes have become, a mid-size entry would make sense. It has worked for BMW. But, what do I know?

The Goldwing is a sitting duck. Other than BNGs / styling changes there's been no substantial upgrade in 16 years! Honda has already dropped the ST1300 and rumors are afloat the Goldwing is next. No word on a replacement for either.

I think it was on this site, someone was talking with a Honda representative who also advised that adventure bikes were the wave of the future. I am NOT a Honda fan, but if you want comfort, huge carrying capacity, power, creature comforts, etc, etc....the Gold Wing has no competition. BMW has a big touring machine, but it and the GW are apples and oranges. Around here, the bikes break down into three main "types"; touring/Gold Wing; sportbikes; cruisers, et al. I look at this site and I see bunches of people from my general region, but I've only seen two Teneres in the wild. I've seen more GSs and Tigers. And only the Tiger rider waived. Surprise to me, almost all of the actual H-D riders waive. I wave to everybody on two wheels

I think it will be a large, luxury touring machine with all the latest electronic performance and entertainment technology. It will have a 1200 to 1800 cc inline crossplane triple with lots of horsepower because this machine will be a leaning 3-wheeler, 2 wheels up front and one rear and it locks upright at low speed.

In the Ottawa Ontario market cruisers are not flying off the show room floors and haven't for a few years now..but our market is very small compared to the USA.

Even Harley is feeling the pinch , there're offering rebates in North America.

Victory is gone bye bye..

So in IMHO,the market is soft for this type of bike, guess Yamaha figures they can change that ...?

I'm helping out at with Suzuki demo day this Saturday,it will be curious to see how many times their cruiser is ridden . Hope the weather gods cooperate...

All the Yamaha hype emails I've been getting, including the three videos they have out about this, are all Star based customers talking about what they want, ie bluetooth music and com, built in XM, fuel injection, etc. I have no doubt it will just be a big Star touring/cruiser along the lines of crossing a Victory Vision with a HD Ultra Glide and more modern features.

The phot looks like they secretly purchased parts from the now defunct Victory...

I would really like to see a new 600 plus cc twin for North America

Just saying

That looks like a direct competitor to the Kawasaki Voyager........ not really the Goldwing.

::026:: Or the big H-D, definitely not as smooth/finished as the GW. It doesn't matter either way, not that there is anything I would trade the Tenere for. ::001::

Since the Venture went out before the Star brand come online, it's quite possible that they will resurrect that name for the new bike. Like Davesax36 said, a retuned Vmax motor in a touring package might just sell. I believe that they need another home for the Vmax motor, and since it worked so well in the Venture the first time, why not now? Goldwings are getting very long in the tooth, and I would think that Yamaha sees a vulnerability that they can exploit with a powerful but under-utilized motor that they have already invested in. I'll be watching it!

The big wait is over. It's another Harley V-Twin clone to add to the other 200 V-twin offerings. What a let down.
