Interesting history. I didn't realized the borders were aligned with parallels. Hadn't given it any thought.

I was happy with the center of the universe sign. I'm a little surprised it took so long for someone to do exactly what you did. I kinda expected it to go in about a day.

I love this idea...new to the forum and just saying hello so this one stays in my "participated". Will definitely play if I can. Used to be into geocaching too.

I figured I would put the Damascus sign up to show people the center of the universe. Yes, we grow rat bastards and then elect them here. Seriously, I figured that I would grab the tag before going off to PA and getting Bruced.

Since you want a farther Welcome sign, here is coming back from PA:

The new tag has this song to listen to while planning to make your mark:

This is a stone #50 and is a crown stone, which comes with history: http://msa.maryland.gov/megafile/msa/stagsere/se1/se5/004000/004800/004816/pdf/msa_se5_4816.pdf

The bike is visible in the background, above my helmet.

And the stone is part of this bigger story. Betcha never thought about where the term Dixie came from!

So for the new tag go find and post a historically important survey mark.
I'd like to start/ continue playing this game would you be willing to give us a new tag to find. I searched Indiana's websites for survey stones like the one you've found and can't find anything. I love to ride and find new places but can't seem to find a survey stone. Let me know if the game is still alive.

Really?

This one is on the route of an old canal. http://metamora.info/wordpress/
Seriously, it doesn't have to be more than a survey marker older than an ice cream cone. There are bunches of old surveyed locations right in Indy, which is where you look to be.

Nearly all memorials and historic markers are put in their specific locations then surveyed for a reason. Simply Google:
indiana "survey marker"
You can even focus it by adding a county name.

And pick one where you want to ride to.

Ideas:

Old timers may remember Perfect Circle" piston rings on photos of early race cars. The waymarking list above shows that the old factory foundation has a survey marker:

Being a beautiful Saturday I thought that I would give this thread a bump, in case anybody is looking for a reason to take a ride today.

Try using this Geo-Caching tool. We all have survey benchmarks close to home that we never are aware of.

Or Google your county name with the words survey benchmark

I've got a survey marker in the sidewalk down the block. Tough to get a picture of the bike and the disc. Maybe a shot of the bike's footpeg looking down on the disc will pass muster. I just need a 'next'.

REI has a marker in all of their stores.

City Hall's.

State Capitols usually have a marker.

The corner and center of a state.

Mount Hamilton, Mount Diablo, ...

Of COURSE it passes. A friggin' surveyors SUV would have at this point.
And besides, I believe that all historic markers have been surveyed for location.

Alright... then the next tag is a shot of your Tenere someplace in your hometown where there is a foodtruck working. This pic below is the Wedge Brewery in Asheville and the Tin Can Pizzeria is visible parked out front. The Wedge is one of over a dozen great breweries in Asheville and is a fave among the ADVrider crew. Every Weds afternoon they have for years held the "ADV Wedgesday Gathering." It is not uncommon to come out and find 20-30 or more ADV bikes and riders all socializing over some Iron Rail IPA. This pic was from 3pm on Thurs so the crowds were light.

It's a beautiful weekend and we all pass survey markers constantly.
