Check out page 6-2 of your owners manual ( 2013) ... The suggested shifting is to shift into 6th at 39mph, and then when decelerating at 25 mp shift from 6th to FIRST?!? Who rides like that?

Lawyers I guess.

When I rode it ( gently mind you, it's got 51 miles on it and I was about to buy it) it seemed way smoother around 3000rpm, the way they would have one shift it would be chugging along at 1200 rpm... Can you even move enough oil at that speed?

These recommended shift points are bogus (they're probably published only as a regulatory requirement to squeak through emissions testing), but the shift down point is 25 kmh, not mph. Basically it is saying that when decelerating to a complete stop, leave it in 6th until 25 kph/16 mph, then pull the clutch and go down through the gears. Which is certainly a legitimate way to ride the bike if you want to maximize fuel mileage and minimize wear/tear on the gearbox/clutch. (Banging down through each gear isn't something I do unless I know I will need to accelerate again before I stop.)

And in top gear, 39 mph turns about 2K RPM, not 1200. Again, not a way I would choose to ride the bike, but it will maximize fuel mileage.

I agree that they are bogus I am a pretty laid back rider and that seems way low to me.

I do however shift down through the gears to be in get up and go mode the second I drop the clutch... Years of urban riding I guess when stupid can appear out of any driveway. Always have to be ready to brake or git depending on how close they are to killing you.

My biggest issue is going from the short geared 1-3 to the tall 4th gear. That's gonna take some practice.
