Does anybody know what the different parts of the part number mean? For example the winglet part numbers are 2014+ 2BS-F83M0-V0-00 while the older models are 23P-F83M0-V0-00.

The difference here is 2BS vs 23P. So what do the pieces mean?

I think he established that :D I don't think there's any intelligence built into to the naming for interpretation.

The first three digits in a Yamaha part number are the model number of the vehicle it was first used on. The second portion tells the "group" or "section" the part belongs to, and the last four digits are the revision and/or color code.
23P is the model number of the first generation Tenere, 2BS is the second generation model number.

You'll find common parts that have model codes clear back into the 60's and 70's.

Thank you sir. That is why two bikes can use the same part number that does not match either of them.
