Just bought a ST...it comes with OEM crash bars on it. Anyone know what skid plates will fit? SW Motech looks like it may but would be nice to know ::)

Any stand alone skid plate will fit with the oem crash bars. However, the cast aluminum sump is what most skid plates mount to, and that is our weak spot, as a hard hit will either crack the sump, or blow out the mounting points, both causing severe oil leakage. If you just need a gravel guard, pick what you think looks nice and be happy. If you need a real skid plate, then it gets more challenging.

Altrider and SWMotech are good quality products, but mount to the sump, in part or totally. ACD fron spain and the Ride On ADV skid plate do not mount to the sump. The other option would be to ditch the oem crash bars and go with a Rumbux system, (more protection, also not mounted to the sump.)

I have Yamaha engine guards and have an Alt Rider plate that I changed the front mount a little so it mounts to the front cross bar. So now it is not attached to the front of the motor. Took a little cutting of the plate and bending some strap for the front mount.

Rumbux looks great but dunno about removing the new oem bars....seems too wasteful or rather I'm too tight :-\

NoMorBills....did you have to drill through the oem crossover bar to fit the front metal straps?...I've not seen my bike yet so don't know what holes are in it.

Seem like only the sw motech will fit with no mods and may be ok as I don't plan on mega rough stuff...got a wr for that

Yes I did. There are no holes there.

If the SW Motec will fit then go that route. It will do what you need it to.

Hmm the more I read on the sw one the more I'm put off...I'm not keen on the mount to the sump bit...it looks waffer thin.

If you mount the alt rider plate as per the instructions then how bad is the interference with the cross bar from the yamaha guards? Is it just the top of the plate that hits the cross bar?
