To me, it looks like they divorced the gearbox from the FJR motor, and shaved a cylinder to get to the 998cc displacement (all UTV manufacturers have agreed to abide by a 1000cc limit, in order to keep the CPSC happy). The sand dune shots look to be at the Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation area, which is somewhere I frequent during the winter months. Since my wife and I were talking about getting a new toy, this has moved up to the top of the list...

I have friends with these type of UTV's... So the new Yamaha has been a topic of discussion.. Like Apple and so many other business I think this is the first version, so they can get the first crowd excited, Etc. The day this came out there is already a company offering a turbo for this machine with three packages of 'power'. Stock has been reported at 112, I think the three power packages are as fallows, 180/240/300 HP... I think Yamaha will next offer a turbo from the factory and they can dial in anything they want. IMOP, they will also offer a paddle shift in the next one or two versions. They have the technology already and just have to apply it, witch im sure they are/have been working on.... I'm glad they didn't fallow the "belt" program, and have a real trans with real gears. I think its a cool direction Yamaha is going in and will be fun to read and fallow the conversation people have about these machines in the future ! They are a BLAST !

Yamaha has their work cut out going after Polaris market. They have the money and smarts to do it just had to decide to commit to it. The old Rhino was a sore spot for law suits early on in this game. Polaris has made so much money with the Razor it's hard for others to stand by and watch.

Based on their Nytro 3cyl 1000. We have these sleds pushing 300hp all day long. These motors love boost ! I had a Apex motor which is a 4cyl 1000 turbocharged at 300hp for 9 seasons of hard mountain miles. Never missed a beat ! The 5 spd manual is really a gamechanger ! They have done good !

I'm not so sure about this.
The whole atv world has shifted over to automatic because of laziness, that is the same thing we are seeing on the street these days, Automatic motorcycles, Trikes so that they don't have to know how to even ride,
The world is becoming a lazy bunch of X-Box players.
There may be some real riders want this clutch and shifting stuff but laziness has got a hold on people.

In the tight technical riding the 5 spd will have a learning curve im sure. In the sand no belt and a 5spd will be so much fun plus power to the ground. The Yamaha bleeds quality unlike Polaris which is just pure junk imo. This isnthe side by side we have been dreaming of from the beginning. Rumors are saying the Yamaha is beating up on stock Polaris turbo 1000s. Cant wait tom ave a YXZ !

No pic for us
I was only there one day out of the three, didn't really have time to snap a pic, other than before the show and didn't want to cause any grief.

Of course there are two sides to every story.

The greatest dirt toy I've ever owned was an automatic transmission Kawasaki KFX700 V-Force. Bar none, nothing was more fun for me on the trail, and on the motocross track. 100% of the time the automatic transmission was in the right gear. At any time, at any speed, in any situation, all I had to do was stab the throttle and the back tires instantly start to roost and would break loose as much as I desired. I'd grin so much it was almost painful. God, I loved that machine...even though it nearly killed me. >:D

I rode plenty of shift ATVs, but none could match the satisfaction produced by the always pulling V-Force.
