Just wondering if anyone has recorded step by step (with photos) instructions for installing the Yamaha heated grips? I'm mechanically declined and a visual learner.... Thanks ::022::
No, but try to insulate under the LHS one and make sure your happy the temps are even before glueing it down ::008::
Mine were very different left to right and I have spent ages trying different types of insulation tapes and they are still not close enough for my liking, gonna try some heat shrink next, but a couple of layers of electrical tape with some heat reflective tape have helped a lot.
I've been trying to install OEM heated grips over the past few days. I'm having a tough time with the throttle assembly. It doesn't return as fast and after I took it back apart, there is a small nick in the wire.
Any tips on how to run that wire in the assembly? I'm about to take it to a stealership. So frustrating.
installled my 13 grips (oem) this fall. small instruction pics make it a challenge at best. but they are the way to do it.
wiring routing in the grip side has to be looped exactly as the photo in instructions or it will bind the throttle upon completion (dont ask me how i know).
one trick is to smear the wire with white grease prior to assembly. this will keep the wire from running dry inside of the housing. eventually wearing out the protective wire sheath. when you drill the new hole in the handlebars for the new throttle housing position. make sure it is the correct size bit or larger. that will help in re-assembly-which requires three hands which i didnt have so i called over my good neighbor. when my grips heated up they bound up the throttle grip slightly due to heat expansion. i added a thin hard plastic washer (hardware hanks .14 cents) before i installed the aluminum factory spacer into the handlebars. that solved my unwanted cruise control when the grip heated up on high.
As to the left grip being colder, that i found as true as i took my digital temp gun and proved it to myself. so i took off my left grip aluminum spacer and gave it a dose of expand-a-foam into the hole. that solve my unbalanced heat issue.
the operation was a PIA due to the instruction sheet (very small print) and no written explanation. took me about hour and a half total time. and i am a meticulous prick.
hope this helps.......................
I've installed two sets but don't think I can be helpful. I found the included instructions fairly complete (I'm used to reading/following japanese converted to english instructions) though when it came time to mount the controller I deviated a bit and moved it elsewhere on my S10...see if you can find it!
