Maybe a new XJ750 is in the works, Assuming they can get a shaft drive attached that is.

Normal sump as well. I wonder whether a XT750 is coming. Of course everyone will say they just copied Triumph.

Interesting though, can't wait to hear one.

Yamaha has used 3 cylinder motors in snowmobiles for over 10yrs now,Not cross plane though.
Very reliable motors,i have a 2007 1000cc triple venture, just oil changes is all that is needed.
Same dry sump system as the tenere to get the motors as low as possible. ::022::

Other than those oddball Hitachi carbs and the shaft jacking the rear wheel, the 850 was a fabulous bike. The carbs were fine unless you needed parts or jets. Most people liked the Special, but I always thought the standard version was far more comfortable. I have to control myself every time one shows up on Craigslist, which has been pretty frequent around here in the past year of so. No kidding: probably 25 or so in the past year; you never hear anything about them for years, no everyone wants to sell one.
Again, great bikes: heavy, but character rich engines.
