Hi there!
I just joined this forum. I am interested in purchasing a 06 wr450 ;D
I will first tell you a bit about myself.

I am 5'10 and 70kg(Not sure in pounds)lol
I am a very capable rider and have riden 300 2ts before(Dont like 2t power at all) Can easily pick up my xr250 fully fueled (i think thats like 100+kg?)
I have a budjet of 4000
I METICULOUSLY look after all my bikes and am fine with a bit of maintainence as i aspire to become a mechanic. Would prefere a bike that held its value.
Am fine with doing some mods or improvements to the bike to suit my needs (Dirt roads and commute)

I am wanting to use the wr 450 for a short commute everyday, Plus a bit of adventure riding and small amounts of highway use.
I will gear the bike accordingly to my use.

I have a few reliability concerns. Starter motor issues and whatnot ive heard about. I also heard that the maintaince schedule is crazy! Altough i dont mind a bit of tinkering.
Would this bike suit my needs?
What modifications do you recommend?
What tips do you have for this bike?

Am in a critical position here as im about to pull the trigger and buy one HEHEHEHE

Help is appreciated guys. (sorry if i posted in the wrong spot too)

I have a friend who purchased a Wr450 for the same reason as you, for the short commute and occasional charity trail ride. He has been very happy with it, the maintenance is not bad, its a lot better than the yz450. As far as reliability i'm sure its bullet proof like most yamaha dirtbikes. The only drawback i see is that they do not come street legal, but they do sell kits to make them legal.

They're street legal in Australia...where the OP is from.

Go for it!!! It's a great bike. Now, if only we could get it here in the US as a street legal!!

In addition to my S10 I have an 03-WR450. Super bike, a little heavy for slow trail work, but great power and typical Yamaha bulletproof
Only maintenance I do is LOTS of oil changes (only holds 1.1ltr) so you need to keep it clean
Keep air filter clean
Keep chain lubed
BUY a lithium battery and you will have no starter issues (it starts so well that kicking it is no big deal)
When I pull myself away from the S10 we normally ride these 4-6hrs high speed & low, so commuting should be easy
Mine isn't street legal but we have lots of them on the road legally here
