Yes, D606 is a popular tire for the DR as are many others...and don't forget to budget for a bigger tank someday...
Thanks, Jim. Yes, I ordered some 606s yesterday while at Romney getting the bike. Also after comparing the MSR and factory skidplate, I went with the factory for more complete coverage. Also ordered a 14t counter sprocket at your recommendation. Picked up some 10w oil and will put a 1/4" shim in the front forks to see if that gives enough improvement. Haven't decided what to do about the carb just yet. If I can find a tiny washer I'll do the shim thing, but I don't have faith in finding a washer that small. May just go with a kit.

Outside of that, I'm going to be done farkeling for a while. Need to see if I can mentally adjust to that seat before taking action.

I don't see a problem, everything fits. Could get one or two more in there!
Good to see a fellow intellectual here.

I know you'll really enjoy the DR. I sold a '12 DRZ and picked up a '12 DR at a great price. Even after adding Acerbis 5.3 tank (Grey), skidplate, pipe guard, and rear rack, I'm still quite a bit less than half the $$ of a new 690. The DR does give up a bit to the DRZ in rough, tight trails.... but is so much better than the DRZ on highway. Its great for the DS riding I do....
