Women who ride Teneres

I am new to adventure touring and have not yet run into any other women who are riding these bikes. I have many female friends who ride street, as I did for 10 years. Just wondering if there are any women on this forum and would like to find out how they 'do dirt'. Fortunately I have long legs, so touching is not a problem. The Terere on the street is fantastic! My concern is around not having a lot of weight or strength to throw this bike around...

You must be quite the woman to handle a Super Tenere and Canukian too. Another Adventure gal out your way, Cowgirl on the Island and she gets around on her VStrom. Welcome to the club!

I'm 5' 8" (1.7 M) and a senior citizen, rode my S10 for 6 months now. I have to admit that it's the tallest heaviest bike I can ride, but with the low seat I can flat foot it. Currently adding a sidecar which will solve the balance problem.

My wife doesn't spend any time on the forum, but she has been riding a Tenere since 2012. At 5'6" her bike has 1" lowering links and the lower OEM seat. She also wears a boot that adds an inch to the heel. She has over 20K Tenere miles on the bike, including a couple of 4 and 5 thousand plus mile trips. Lots of dirt road experience, including more mud that she would like to have done.

The Tenere is a great bike for her even though I think it is too big. She won't let me talk her into a smaller bike...and I've tried. She loves all the safety features of the Tenere and won't hear of anything that doesn't have them (for her big bike). Once moving she feels stable, and comfortably in command. I have to admit, too big or not, it's been a fantastic bike for her.

I admit I haven't seen any women riding one but then again, I don't see many Tenere's on the road period and when I do, they are usually zooming by the other way and difficult to ascertain the gender of the pilot. That said, I've seen quite a lot of pictures posted of people with their Tenere's and I can't recall seeing one with a female owner. As you mentioned, it's likely due to the size of the bike which makes it a poor choice for many women due to their size.

Good for you Susan, way to be a proud "minority" Tenere owner!

I am female, and (used to) ride a Super Tenere. My motorcycle recently caught on fire, so I am waiting for the delivery of my replacement 2016 Super Tenere to resume riding.

How did your S10 catch fire? Or wasn't it an S10 you were riding recently? On this forum I only heard of one S10 that caught fire and it was caused by a fried wire harness.

I wish my girlfriend wanted to learn to ride, rather than always riding pillion with me. Touring with a loved one on their own bike, and their own luggage, with a good Sena comm unit, is the best way to tour, I think.

In general I agree, but went for so many years without any partner that i'm happy to have her along as a pillion regardless.

Welcome to the board, Susan! I absolutely love to see women getting into motorcycle riding. My late wife (who's name was Susan) used to pilot our Harley Road Glide very well and rode our DR650 and 350 off road like nobody's business. It did help that she was 5'8" and lean....but not mean. Unfortunately she passed before I got into large ADV bikes, but I'm sure that she wouldn't have had a problem piloting one as well.

I recently remarried and my new wife is also tall and she has a motorcycle endorsement, but unfortunately, she just doesn't like riding on two wheels by herself. We have taken several long range trips two up, but due to my health, I have made the decision not to ride with a passenger on the back any further. I figure that if something was to happen to me I don't want to get her killed.

The new plan is to buy her a Can Am Spyder so she can ride with me. She did a demo earlier this year and she feels comfortable operating one.

Welcome, Susan. Great to see you are not intimidated by the size and weight of the Super Tenere. These are wonderful bikes, and I am sure you will continue to enjoy the ride. ::003::

Right on!

Love my Tenere. Bought it leftover at the end of August '14, have put 20K miles on it. Great bike! I see there are about half a dozen of us ladies on Teneres.

Welcome to the fold Susan. One of your fellow Canuks, Liz Jansen, Ontario, CN put at least 30,000 miles on her 2012 S10 before recently switching to an 800 Triumph Tiger. She's around 5'-7" and at a stop, on one leg or the other. I'm 6'-2", 230 lbs, and I'm learning you don't throw this beast around. Find the balance zone and keep it there, and all is wonderful. Having espoused all that, I ride mostly asphalt. Super Tenere is a fantastic road machine.

And Right On ::026:: to that..
We tenere riders are like Ghost I have seen less than a handful in New Mexico..
But gals on Tens are like hens teeth..
I would think the 800 Tig is a good choice for lighter folks, I almost bought one (Triumph Triple addict myself) but the seat was way to short and wanted another Shafty again.

Belated welcome to the forum. There are more lady ADV riders than you might think. Check out "ADV gals" on Facebook, if you do FB. My wife is on that and says it's a pretty good group. She rides a '11 F650GS2, but has taken my Super Ten out a couple of times with lowering links on it. It's heavier than she wanted, but she loved the brakes, handling and power compared to the little GS. We mostly do pavement, but aren't scared off by dirt.
