Adding the aftermarket (rider built) Windshield Brace will stop the nut from loosening and from the windshield shaking. Plus it allows you to adjust the windshield in more than three locations.

Is there room on the bolt to run an extra washer? Google Bonded Sealing Washer. The rubber side of the washer will compress and 'store' tension. Shouldn't back off. I used them on the Touratech bracket, one for the no slip, and two for the stored tension.
It does sound as though there is a specific place to run the wingnut down at, like one of three slots or something.

I lost mine on the right side when it came loose after a windshield adjustment. The new one has stayed put for awhile now, but I had to keep an eye on it. No more windshield adjustments as I found a setup that works for me. I may put some sealant on the threads though to be sure.
