Looking for opinions on Windscreens for my 2018 es. I see these little winglets that people have attached to there stock windscreens, what do you think of them, worth purchasing or am I better off just replacing the whole wind screen with a Givi, MRI or something similar?
Thanks
J

On my 2016 ES, I have the Yamaha Tall windshield with the Yamaha side wind deflectors, and the Madstad adjustable bracket. This combo works well for me. The side wind deflectors are necessary in my opinion.

Ken, thanks for your input. What are people’s thoughts on wings and stock? Wings and touring? Wings, madstad and stock?

In the two months I was able to ride my bike last fall, I found that the mid height adjustment worked best for me. I don’t have wings or a madstad. I’m 6’. High spot on the windshield gave me too much head bobble buffeting.

I plan on riding two up and wonder what Works well for my pillion. If she’s not happy, I’m not happy.

I have used the Madstad with the MRA +wing shield and mirror extenders with some success on my 2012. I also have a GIVI Aeroflow that I have yet to try with the mirror extenders I just installed. The MRA has a bit more air hitting the top of my helmet than the Aeroflow w/o mirror extenders while the Aeroflow seems to be better at the top, it had more turbulence from the sides. Most of the turbulence I was getting with both was coming from the mirrors. Hopefully, I'll get to test a bit more this week when the weather is better.

I had also tried several heights of the National Cycle Slipstream shields as well as a Burgman 400 windshield -- none worked as well as those above.

I also have a 2014 ES with a Madstad and the large tall Parabellum shield, windshield support brackets and winglets + mirror extenders. This combination does a pretty good job overall but I think it would be better if the shield were wider at the base. For reference, since I've shrunk in my older years, I'm just over 6' tall with a 32" inseam.

I tried a few but ended up making my own out of an old triumph windscreen that I had in my basement. I have owned many bikes and the wind protection on my S10 is as good as any. Even a Harley with a full fairing that I owned did not do any more, Moto Guzzi nope. Now before everyone gets on this, no nothing hits and no had no effect on MPG. Every tank that has go into this bike has gone into a fuel program. Side wind on the highway seems the same as with the stock windshield. I did a trip to PA 1,250 miles last year with three Harleys and we had some very windy days. They all complained about the wind and I was fine. I cut this one down three or four times before I got it right but it works for me. If you have the skill set just make your own.

Looks like your modified windshield is quite a bit wider than those I've tried. Can you give the width and height measurements and your height and inseam length?

When I get home I can measure the windshield but for myself I am 5' 10" inseam 30" or 31". I think the width is the key as I get very little wind on myself. In the summer I put the stock one back on for local rides and boy what a difference it makes. Seems with the stock windshield even at the highest setting the air flow hits me at the top of my helmet.

I'm 6'2" and have winglets from ebay and the MRA screen. I have the screen set so I can see the road from about 10 meters in front or the bike. In rain and at steady speed I get very little water on the tank bag. In the dry hardly any bugs on my helmet below the top of the visor.

This is what worked best for me. Almost no wind at 80 mph on highway. After 80 she doesn't do well due to the tires I am running.

Mimsey Yes. I run MRA wings on a number of different bikes - Very adjustable and they are pretty effective. I would go with the clamp on model which is easily moved from one windshield to another and is very solid.

Thanks for the personal data and the detailed pictures of your modified Triumph screen. Both the MRA and the Aeroflow screens are about 18" wide max near the bottom. Their height is about the same as yours so the big difference appears to be the bottom width. Do you remember what model Triumph screen it was? Might be able to match it with a National Cycle screen.

I think the big cutout at the bottom to get air up in on both sides of the screen plays a big role in the smoothness. The buffeting from low pressure behind the screen is the exact thing we're trying to avoid when adding MRA-type clip-on screens. Allowing air up under the bottom helps with this. I find that I run my madstad tipped almost all the way back and have zero problems with head bouncing and bugs, and very little water gets on the tank bag when moving.

Thanks everone for your input, I think ill Try a MRI Wing, on the stock screen, it can always be lifted to another screen if it doesn't perform well.

It was a 2010 Triumph Thunderbird loved that bike. Put 35,000 miles without one problem, tires three times a year or maybe 5,000 per change
