My bike is hard to move when in gear with the clutch pulled in. When I start the bike its easier to move it but it still feels like there is something dragging when I try to move the bike . Last month at 9,500 mi my rear brake pads were shot so I thought my caliber was sticking
so I cleaned and lubed all the calibers and put new pads on the rear. l also bled the brakes and clutch , changed the rear gear oil, motor oil/filter, checked and lubed bearings and axels and everything checked out .
Now other than a cam chain rattle once and a while and a little clutch shutter the bike runs great . Unless this bike is in neutral she wont roll SHOULD I BE WORRIED ?

Was the engine warm or cold when you tried to move it?

Mine is always harder to roll in gear with the engine off.

Why would you want to move it in gear. Stick it in neutral and move it. Same with starting it. Stick in neutral and start. Much easier on the battery too. What you're feeling is normal.

Something to do with the wet clutch dragging I think.

With the wet clutch you're dragging the transmission and engine.

As others have mentioned, it is normal for this bike. I've never had this issue with any other bike, even those with bigger engines, also shaft driven. As to why you would want to do it that way? because you have that choice. BTW, it also drags the clutch, so when up on center stand and in gear, pull the clutch in, it will still spin up.

You can isolate the problem by comparing the effort in neutral vs. in-gear/clutch-pulled. If same, then you've got a brake drag issue, if only in-gear, then a clutch drag issue. My experience is that almost any brake drag is too much, but "some" (enough to make the bike noticeably harder to push) clutch drag is normal on a wet-clutch bike, especially if the oil is cold. A bike with a seriously dragging clutch will also tend to really crunch pretty hard from neutral into 1st.

If brakes, then you put it up on the centerstand and start spinning the wheels by hand to isolate which end. Any brake drag will be VERY noticeable when trying to spin a wheel by hand.

A tip i use when i have to move the bike about , especially when its fully loaded is ..if your not about to go on a long run "dont fill your petrol tank up fully " if i,m getting on and off a ferry i make sure ive not got a lot of fuel in it , then fill up when i dock .the tenere has a big tank and all that weight is high up . It makes a big difference when man handling it ..

Pull into a bike park and try and paddle the bike backwards in gear clutch in no go, in neutral better, engine off easy ::012::

As already said, i's the wet clutch. If you try to start it in gear (cold), you'll notice the bike lurch forward slightly. Same drag causes that.

Thanks for the replies guys. The bike is easier to move when the bike is running,my rear brake is sticking again but not all the time . The rear rotor is pretty bad its worse than my Honda ST with 50,000 mi on it . I have never burned up a set of rear brake pads in 10,000 miles on anything except dirt bikes . I used a Motion Pro bleeder last time maybe next time i wont ??
I know i can put it in neutral but i havent with any other bike and they move fine , even my 750 pound ST 1300 rolls much easier .
Oh well i love the bike more and more every day !!
