Why all the hate?

Whats up with all the hate that people have for the Super Tenere? I just dont get it. When I tell people I am getting a Tenere they reply with..."man its a pig why did you buy that?!" Or...."its a major failure by yamaha and the bike is horrible and doesnt do anything well. Its worse offroad than the legendary GS, not as fast as the Multistrada, and over all not worth the money."

I guess I just dont get the hate and was curious. In my opinion is a great freaking bike! Reliable, great offroad, great tourer, and does all things well enough for 99% of the general public.

Wow, tough to say. The short answer is, "different strokes for different folks." Different folks value different qualities and functions, and all motorcycles are a compromise so what people like is very dependent on what THEY are looking for.

Or, they could just be assholes. :D

I have not experienced that, maybe because they can't get a word in edgewise as I am telling them how great the bike is. Seriously lots of people have no idea what they are talking about ( don't get me startd on national political figures) and repeat things others say without any basis of fact, logic or thought. ::009::

The Tenere belies it specs, that is for sure. It appears heavy (it is in total weight) and down on horespower compared to the Ducati. But Yamaha and specifcally this bike is about handleing. The weight is low and you don't feel it, there is plenty of power for on and off road work, who needs more, and it has great electronics, not too much, just right for its intended use.
::012::

It may not be a perfect bike but none are. It is however an amazing all around bike. So for those that don't get it they can go spend $8,000 to $10,000 more on a GS or Multistrada, be locked into really high accessory and replacement parts, expensive maintenance and higher probabilties of breakdown. I figure great performance, flexibility of use, low cost of ownership and more time on the road and less in the shop makes for a great purchase. I loved my Multi but I am oh so much happier with my Tenere ::022::

Everyone I meet is excited about the Super10. The NT is the bike they love to hate. I like 'em both, but I like the Super10 better. :)

The world is full of people who like to gossip. You know spread factless rumours about other people. They typically do this as a way to avoid dealing with their own problems and character flaws. People who trash another persons choice in a motorcycle without any facts are similar and equally pathetic, or.......................... they could just be assholes :))

I would say that 99% of these na sayers DONT own the bike, or have NOT ridden the bike once..... They are probably going off the (paid advertising) "articles" from there favorite magazines. It still galls me that SO MANY people cant, or refuse to read between the lines on any of these bike mag's..... Its similar to NBC, CBS, ABC owned by huge conglomerates that have an underlying agendas... Do you really think your getting the 'real' news in an unbiased presentation? Hope your not that dumb....

I read and flip though many motorcycle magazines being in, and doing business in several sides of the motorcycle industry. I read many times about some 'shoot out' with whatever bike... The winner is "SUPER DUPER BIKE"....... three pages over there is a two or three page add, advertising the "Super duper bike"..... Ive been in 100 magazines over ten years.... I have a few friends in the industry... this is how this works.....

I didnt say every magazine in the world works this way, but many in the bike bizz do......

So with that being said, if someone chooses not to like the Yamaha for what ever reason, and or they read most of the lame "shoot out" articles, then one might be lead down the path of the Super Tenere is some big over weight beast that has no real place along side the GS and Ducati... HOG WASH BS.... ! !
Those magazine guys need to put my bike in (S) with TCS turned off and go take it out for a ride... There going to change there underwear when they get back... And stop writing these nonsense pansy articles.... And for all the "key board cowboys" that dont own any ADV bike, they need to shut up and get a clue.... Good thing I own a Super Tenere and have ridden the GS and Multi many times...... I know WHAT these bikes can and do offer... I LOVE my Yamaha........... ::26::

Blow those dudes off.. You have a FANTASTIC adventure bike..... ::008:: They are probably just bunch of Assh0les :))

Now that is what I like to read, from someone who knows the industry their talking/writing about who can clue those of us outside said industry in on how things really work, and better than that, in this post here's someone who has owned a couple of the contenders/competitors, who has real world experience on just how each compares. Awesome and thanks for a frank reply.

This sort of thing is indeed a bummer, but it’s not about motorcycles imo. If the motorcycle wasn’t on stage, people like those you refer to would take issue with something else like your car, or your cell phone, or your boots, etc. etc. Best just to move on.

Haters gonna hate. A matter of ingnorance and envy, simple as that. However it has not been my personal experience from family, friends and even a few strangers at gas stations.

I have not experienced the hate (yet). Maybe in time I will. Dunno. Most people I talk to about the SuperT either have not even heard of it, or they have positive things to say about it as well. Most are curious and are anxious to ask me questions.

Maybe Venture had it right above........... ::025::

I haven't seen it yet, either. Maybe because most of our haters are over at the occupy gatherings. >:D

I get surprising reactions from mine. Most that see it are fascinated by it. Even some die hard Harley guys. Many grew up riding Enduros, and the idea of a 1200cc twin Enduro gives them a whole new perspective.

I too have not had any run ins will folks who don't like the Tenere. All I have experienced so far is curiosity about the bike. I frankly don't care if anyone else likes it or not so their opinion and 50 cents gets them a cup of coffee. Both Ducati and BMW have known reliability issues and where I live there is the double whammy of not stellar dealer support. For me buying either of those was never in consideration. As Tabasco said, the magazines have to CYA on potential advertising bucks which has to color their conclusions so you really cannot put much faith in what they write. I have to say that I am extremely pleased with the bike so far, it is what I hoped Yamaha would build and I have absolutely no regrets in buying it and would do so again with no hesitation.

This only seems to work for the "Senior" cup at McDonald's. Everyplace else is well over a buck.......

But I agree with you!!

Boostedxt, what you described is totally foreign to me. I have only experienced mild to excited curiosity regarding the Tenere. I hope what you are seeing is localized. About all you can do is try to show a little sympathy for the fact that they obviously don't own one. Hard cheese. R ::008::

I've experienced a mixed bag of reactions...and frankly could care less. I've reached a point in my life where I couldn't give a rat's ass about most people's "opinions". The "knowledge" of others is usually (as noted above) not based on experience but what they've read/heard and chosen to believe (or not).

Ride what you like and you'll always be happy. ::001::

This is the best advice. Do what works for you and discount the opinions of others. There will always be somebody who disagrees.
