It's really tghe next logical step honestly. It's been proven pretty reliable, it's the lowest cost option (it was only last year I was telling a KLR/tenere owner I could never spend that much on a bike ;) )

I ride it more than I ever rode the KLR, andI rode the KLR quite a bit~!

I got back into street legal dirt biking with a 2008 KLR, but no matter how I farkled it, I really was never satisfied. Then I got the ST and I am quite happy with it performing the role I used to use the KLR for. I found the KLR somewhat fragile, in that I would have to tweak or adjust something after almost every ride, and when I dropped it, the crash bars would bend and I was constantly having to tweak them back into place. I replaced about 3 side covers, which are made of shatter-prone ABS, instead of flexible plastic like they should be. Overall, I am glad I sold the KLR.

Now I have a DR 650 and DRZ 400 available to ride when the ST is too much for the situation. I have developed great fondness for these two bikes, as they have the same longevity as the KLR in terms of years of their production runs, deep aftermarket support, and they are very durable and reliable motorcycles, that really work well.
