Well just an update from me then... as Dirt_Dad says, it's been a long time since I sold the Strom. At the time I wrote the first post I was really just feeling out the ABS and TCS on the Super Tenere, and the 1000 Strom seemed like a good "conventional" bike for comparison. As much as I loved the Stom, the Super Tenere is so far ahead in safety features it's not even funny. I'm at 60.000 miles now over just about every surface and situation you can think of, with no crashes. Without a doubt ABS and/or TCS has saved my arse at least a few times.
I DO like to turn the TCS down to 2 or OFF if I'm in the mood for some fun in the dirt, but for what I'm doing now, riding long distances in varied and challenging conditions, both ABS and TCS stay on most of the time. The last 3000 miles or so has been so safe and efficient (flat roads in Argentina) that I'm actually looking forward some time soon to stripping the luggage, turning down the TCS, and taking the bike for a good thrashing down some Brazillian dirt roads.
