here is the thing: you are essentially playing someone else to assume your risk of manufacturing problems occurring outside the base warranty period. They do that because they know most people will never make a claim and thus they can still pay for the occasional problem and still make a decent margin. Will you be the one that benefits from that? 'Odds are no but it may be worth the piece of mind. If you do high mileage and/or push your bike to the limits a lot you likely stand a better chance of getting your money back but in general I don't think this is a model that tends to be a drama queen. YMMV.
I agree!
We tend to catch things in advance that would harm our treasured Tenere such as the Gen 1 CCT.
Would you sit back and wait for it to fail and munch a set of valves and total the motor so you can get a new one or total rebuild under YES?
Good question would you?
Yamaha didn't recall this Gen 1 Tenere CCT they just slipped a new model under our unsuspecting noses, now I am seeing that some service centers are replacing the Gen 1 at no cost.
The $30.00 2014 clutch basket price Typo, was that a real Typo or Yamaha slipping a solution out to the public for a short period?
Yamaha couldn't put this out as a recall it caused no harm to life or limb..
How good is the YES plan? Depends on the dealer your dealing with it seems.
My local Santa Fe dealer doesn't want to work on my bike it seems I would have to go to Albuquerque to Bobby J's over 100 miles round trip.
I go to my independent mechanic had the 24k valve adjustment done as My local Yam dealer is a Jerk.
It's a reassuring feeling that I have it but this bike is built like a bomber unless you put a ton of miles on it I don't think it will ever need major work.
Funny how the Japanese bikes have low resale value but outlast and have less issues than the Euro bikes that have higher resale value.. :-[
The motorcycle industry is a highly competitive as well as an elusive business why Yamaha does not promote anything they sell is beyond me.
This model is not something to look over as the ADV class is not as real appealing class of bike for everyone as like the cruisers, super sport or big comfy touring bikes.
I see more HD's (Cultural thing), Gold Wings (older thing) and BMW's (status thing in my neck of the woods) than anything.
The Urban crotch rocket riders come in third place.
And depending on Geographic location ATV's, Enduros and Motocross bikes.
Sorry getting off the subject, but I have to say Yamaha is making good pocket change off selling the YES plan!!
