I am always bring too many clothes that I might need and end up not wearing.. This was really a problem on my wing and has been a problem on the Tenere. I fixed the weekend by just bringing 1 pair of everything and using plenty of deodorant. ::025:: Also I always use riding pants and jacket.

So my question is what do you bring and how many of each, not counting personal items..
A. 4 day trip

B. 7 day trip

C. 14 day trip.

4 day trip - 4 socks, 6 underwear (just in case) 6 t-shirts, 2 jeans (riding jeans) flip flops and Toilet kit

7 day trip - 7 socks, 9 underwear, 9 tshirts, 4 jeans, flip flops and toilet kit

You get the idea....

If I wore riding gear, even less.....maybe 2 pairs of jeans and mostly underwear and socks

I bring the same amount of close pretty much even for a 2-4-7-14 day trip.

I wear syntheic underwear, shirts, pants. The convertible nylon pants can unzip into shorts and you can pack 3 pair in the same space as one pair of jeans.. plus, you can wash them and they'll dry quickly whereas jeans and cotton shirts take forever to dry.

For a four day trip I bring a t-shirt or turtleneck (depending on season), a pair of bike shorts, and a pair of socks for each day, to wear under my leathers. Also, one fleece and one pair of jeans because I get cold in the evening. For longer trips I don't bring more clothes - I just plan on doing wash every three days. In warm weather I also usually bring one dress that I can wear for loafing around the campground/motel.

I wear the synthetic underwear too, and pack the same for a 3 day trip as I do for a 2 week+ trip. The rest of what I bring depends on where I'm going, and what I might be doing there. Most of the time, all the clothes I take fit in the 28 liter Touratech pannier with a good bit of room to spare. The synthetic stuff is easy to wash and dries overnight. Having the electric gear is a huge space-saver too. I always bring one extra pair of riding gloves.

I used to carry a lot more, but over time I have found that it doesn't get used. I figure if I really get into a jam clothing-wise on a trip, I can always swing into a store and get what I need. I also carry a mesh bag that I can strap down to the pillion - anything that got soaked or washed the day before and hasn't dried in time when I hit the road gets a full day of air drying that way. :)

@ everyone,
Thanks for the great ideas. There seems to be a consensus on micro fiber or light weight clothing. I have been using the synthetic underwear and it is great for packing and being able to wash at night. But have not changed over to the light weight pants and shirts.
I will be looking for Micro fiber shirts and training type pants. It will be hard to give up my Levi's. ::025::

someone mentioned wearing sock liners, and I will see how that works.
My goal is to shrink the size of my packing, but at the same time, be comfortable.

Keep the ideas coming.
thanks

Jim.. some of the Starter brand stuff at walmart made for runners is thin, synthetic and cheap so it may give you an idea if you like those shirts... I can tell you in TX heat they are nice because when you start sweating, they help provide that nice cooling feeling when you get air flow.

The pants I've gotten at www.campmor.com and I have 3 pair.. I think I got them 4 or more years ago.. they just don't seem to wear out.. one of the buttons on the bottom of the leg came off but I wasn't really using it anyway.. it was used to loop an elastic cord there and get a snug fit around boots/shoes/etc.. and there were two.. anyway, those were the cheap ones from campmor about $25 each...

I usually don't bring many pairs of jeans since I wear the Darien pants for all of my riding. The jeans (or shorts) are just for the evenings, after the days riding. I would like to find some of the micro-fiber pants with the zip-off legs as they look to pack a lot smaller.

Great topic as it seems I never can quite balance out what I take to what I need.

:)

One other thing that I've found helps is to use a compression sack for clothes. Fleece in particular can take a fair bit of space, as can wool socks.

My wife is in the apparel business. I use and wear the Silver-Ridge line of zip off pants and long sleeve button down shirts made by Columbia Sportswear. They also have shorts made of same thin material in the Silver-Ridge. I also have a few of their bug-repellent long sleeve shirts. They are really neat towards bugs.

+ 1. What Mellow said.
Synthetic stuff other than fleece packs small and light. Ten times better than anything cotton. It gets wet, it dries within minutes at warm temps. It will dry wearing the stuff. If riding in hot desert environment it kinda feels good when it's wet. I've had great luck with clothing from Mountain Hardware and Exofficio. And stopping every few days to do a quick load of laundry doesn't take up to much time.

2 pairs of pants
2-3 poly pro base layer shirts
2-3 long sleeve shirts. MAkes no difference if the trip is 2 days or 2 weeks.
Then a pair of socks for everyday till laundry can be done. I don't like putting on socks a second day. "Kinda Funky" if ya know what I mean.

I'd check out some of the ibex merino wool stuff. It doesn't start stinking as fast as the synthetic microfiber items I have replaced, but has the same weight and wear characteristics.

...WHAT MELLOW STATED....

no jeans or cotton anything, I use all performance synthetics under, over and on. They pack super small and can be easily washed & dried in a few hour

As previously stated - no cotton allowed! For any of the times you listed - one pair of after riding pants, at the most 2 regular shirts for going out post-riding, and at most a pair of socks for every other day. Underwear is the same for me - a set of every other day at most. Socks & underwear are merino - don't stink and dry super fast

Synthetic clothing is alright, packs small, but tends to get stinky fast. Polypro or merino takes the cake in terms of odor-resistance and packability.

For riding I usually always pack and wear a lightweight merino pant under my Traverse pants and a merino t-shirt under my Traverse jacket. I also have a midweight set I wear when it's chilly.

Here's a good resource about merino wool if you have some downtime.
