Where does this snap-ring go? SOLVED!

I found half of this snap ring near the front of my 2015 ST (non-ES), then a few days later found the other half over where I back up my ST to take it out of the garage. I've looked in my service manual to find this but no go. It is about 3/4" outside diameter and 9/16" inside diameter.
The only thing I have done recently is install a new Parabellum screen, and before that I had removed and re-installed the ECU for a custom flash. Is there anyone who knows where this might have come from? Or is there a parts listing somewhere that I could do a search for ST snap rings? Any help identifying this piece is greatly appreciated. TIA.

Re: Where does this snap-ring go?

The manual indicates that there is a circlip on the end of the shift shaft, I looked and it is in place.

I haven't worked on anything in the garage this winter except my ST. The only other thing I can think of is maybe it was a stray part that somehow got lodged in the Parabellum shipping box, but how would both parts of a broken snap ring get in there? You would think only one half of it would fall into the box.

I've looked in the service manual under front wheel, front brakes, forks, steering head, gas tank (I lifted it to sync throttle bodies), handlebars.
Thx, still searching the service manual......

Re: Where does this snap-ring go?

The only likely snap ring I can find is on the rear brake master cylinder holding the brake hose joint on, and that one is in place, too. Any other ideas or suggestions are appreciated.

There are 2 in the rear brake master cylinder - one holds the hose, the other is in the "plunger" section, under the rubber dust seal/boot. I'm looking at an exploded diagram in an older copy of a digital shop manual, page 228 out of 616 pages.

This is an external circlip. So hope this helps to narrow down the lists.... Can't think of anywhere this goes to right now.

What other vehicles, machines are in your garage? I'm wondering if that came from a lawnmower, snowblower, edger, or something else and the pieces stuck to the bottom of your shoes and ended up near the S10 since that was what you were recently working on.

Thanks, Kurgan! I saw that diagram when I was searching my service manual. I went down to the garage and checked that brake master cylinder again. The 2nd snap ring is inside the rubber boot. I inspected the boot and it is intact, no tears; no way snap ring parts are getting past it without breaking it.

So I took a few moments and tried to remember if there was anything else I had worked on, moved, etc. and I remembered I had moved my Harbor Freight MC lift around a bit. So I began inspecting it closely and found where the snap ring came from:

So I moved the other (totally unnecessary) snap ring in the photo in to near the frame to replace the one that had broken. Problem solved!
Thanks again, Kurgan and all, for the suggestions. Now I can ::021::
