Came out of Lakeview Oregon and visited Plush then headed to French Glen and the pavement ended not to far outside of Plush up the ridge to top out on some high plains Hart Refuge. A bit over 60 miles of gravel. Wasn’t quite sure where the Steens loop started so when I got to 205 I headed south to Fields. Got there and discovered that the loop starts at French Glen and I should have gone left 10 miles to French Glen. I wasn't going to back track 50 miles for a scenic loop that would have been hazy. I've seen some pretty country lately and I am in the... it's ti.e to go home mode. Fields gas is expensive at $7.25 a gallon but I filled up 3 gallons worth even if I had my extra 2 gallons. I was wondering if I should order a single burger or a double along with the milkshake. I went for the double bacon cheeseburger... BIG mistake. Delicious burger but with fries and shake there was no way that I could eat it all. They put the remainder in a to go box and I strapped it to the bike. About 500 miles later at midnight I finished it before I went to bed in Rexburg, Idaho. Left Fields just as a storm was whipping dust everywhere and a plane buzzed over, circled then landed on the road and taxied in. Maybe he needed to get down due to smoke or storm. Left and headed south. Went an extra 13 miles so I could go into Nevada then turned around and went back to white horse ranch lane. Around another 60 miles of gravel. Came to a part that had a lot of gravel, rocks and mud washed onto the road. Looked like other parts may have been repaired in the past. Got to 95 and decided to skip going north. It was Around 5 pm and I decided to just get to Rexburg about 460 miles away. So I went. Pulled in at midnight.

You ought to go up through Plush and into the Hart Refuge. Great hot springs, then onto French Glen and do the Steens loop north to south. Then down to Fields for a milk shake. From there head north along the Alvord. Ride on the Playa for a bit then head along the East Steens road north to Crane Hot Springs. If you want more???
I understand this a lot more now! Next time. The Playa was so full of smoke as I came down to Fields you couldn't see anything!

As long as they're not on the side of the road or in the shop for repairs, Beemers are great bikes. Fantastic to ride. I just can't rationalize their "pay to play" with their reliability.
I ran into a guy on this trip that was having horrible problems and went into a dealership and traded it in for a new one. The dealer knew he was in a spot and he payed FULL MSRP! Gave him 9200 for his 2020 GS1250 Ralley as it had an unsolvable problem. Kept throwing codes and dying. I told him to call Mother BMW and start a lemon law case... which he did.
Kinda soured me on BMW's that and a few other stories my Uncle who was a diehard BMW rider told me as he pulled up on a new Goldwing after 30 years of BMW ownership. But I have to say that in the last 11,000 miles of this trip the majority of bikes seen (1000's) the BMW is the majority brand.

Yes, I am talking adventure bikes. From Alaska down the west coast and then in the mountains going north to Oregon and ID.
Duh, I should have considered where you went. But as it turns out, H-D is still the most seen. I see the PA more than I see any other brands ADV bike. There's even one, maybe two, that live in my area. I've only seen 2 GS this year, and one was restored and likely saw even less dirt than my bike. It's been years since I've seen a Super Tenere in the wild. But this part of Texas is not a destination, or on the way to a destination.

I see the odd PA and GS but not often.
I see a ST almost every time I’m out.
Lol. It’s my riding buddy and he bought the twin to mine after riding it for 20 min.
He was on his third C14.

Wow I'm impressed (totally) from the bike purchase to the build to this trip - did you pay for the fly on your burger ?

Keep reporting back !
No, the flies were free... and numerous!
I post everyday at Adventuresbyguy.com
I can't post both here and there each day if I did I wouldn't get any sleep!
Thank you for the kind words.

And it's hot and humid!

I did the Wyoming BDR last week solo mostly.

Expert section was a bit tricky in a couple places, side x sides chew it up. IMG_1928.jpegIMG_1914.jpeg
Beautiful scenery and much open grazing in the desert and up in the mountains. Cow pies galore, bike isn’t muddy just sh_tty.

Sand caught me here, too fast and too much pack.

Then I did some of the Black Hills BDR-X on the way back home.

Jesus Christ i would have left the bike there and walked home !

Seriously did you pick the bike up both times and /or do you have one of those jacks to lift it back up?

Nice ride !

Looks like you had an adventure. Glad you survived a couple drops. Not sure I would do some of that solo. You know how much I love sand (and cow piles). Pictures rarely do the rough sections justice. I thought Steve might go back with you.
