I got out for the first "real" ride of the year. I've done a few couple hour long rides but today took me about 4.5 hours with a brief 20 min stop for water and to stretch my legs.

I'll spare you the boring parts. The fun stuff started on Priest Grade, a windy road up the mountain. I thought about taking the Old Priest Grade road but it's pretty vertical in some places and I've never been a fan of it. Instead, I chose the twistier option. Sadly, I got stuck behind a moron in a BMW. Ultimate driving machine? Not when this guy drives. Refused to use any of the pull-outs to let me pass. Frustrating, but whatever. Still better than being at work.

I then took Wards Ferry Road which, like Priest Grade, is listed in Butler motorcycle maps. Turns out Butler and I disagree. Without a doubt, the section between 120 and the bridge is the scariest road I have ever riden in my life... and that's saying something. Narrow, goaty, verticle drop offs with no guard rails, blind corners and blind switchbacks.

It got better once I got to the bridge. Actually, it got A LOT better. Still sketchy for the first few miles but the road was at least wide enough to pull over and let oncoming traffic pass safely.

The bridge is a sight... that's all I'll say about that. All around, glad I can check that off my "must ride" list and add it to my "never again" list.

I'm right there with ya. It's a mix between acid trip vandalism and RIP memorials. Strangest sight I've seen in a while. Can't say I understand what drives people to paint all over it.

We took a ride up over Ellensburg pass into Ellensburg, then took Hwy 10 up to Cle Elum and tried going up Salmon La Sac rd. There wasn't much wind until we got into the canyon east of Cle Elum. We didn't realize how the temps were dropping until we stopped for lunch at the Red Arrow and turn on the propane mini fireplace. The heat from the fire sure felt good while eating lunch. As we are sitting there I was watching the snow clouds playing on the peak tops.

This is where we ran into snow and ice across the road, right at the end of the pavement. This looks like a nice swimming hole for the hot summer days.

Cool looking moss on the trees.

Big tree lizards up here. It must be what Sasquach eats.

To be continued....

Went for a nice early morning ride today. About three miles in with my visor up got hit in the glasses by a flying olive. Bug guts all over me and glasses. The bugs in Arizona must like to stay hydrated went they go all suicide.

They seem to be getting worse. Almost like Iowa on a hot Summer night!
